How can you do spring under axle without cutting your bed?

Is it even possible? I saw this kit for 5 lug Tacos and I have seen where a 6 lug version is coming but I have not seen a 6 lug version. Is there a 6 lug version?

Dual 2.0 Rear Suspension Package - Tacoma 5 Lug
TOTAL CHAOS and Deaver Leaf Spring have worked together for nearly a decade supplying off road enthusiasts rear suspension upgrades that have been designed to compliment TC long travel IFS systems. This new 05+ Tacoma 5 lug rear suspension packages was designed to retain the factory bed and does not require any cutting of the bed. TC has taken all the same elements that have dominated the desert and earned multiple championships over the last decade and features them in a bolt on package specifically intended for the 05+ 5 lug Tacoma platform. (6 lug coming Fall/Winter 08) Tested over 500 off road miles, this kit was designed to retain the factory bracket mounting locations. Upper shock mounts and shackles bolt to existing frame holes. Removing factory brackets and rivets is necessary. The dual shock hoop kit features prebent chromoly dual 2.0 upper shock hoops that are intended to install a 14” 2.0 Fox, King or SAW smooth body and or bypass shocks. It also includes TC weld on dual lower shock mounts and all mounting hardware. The Deaver Spring kit features new bolt on rear shackle mounts and custom shackles, urethane bushings and all mounting hardware. Deaver leaf springs bolt to the factory front spring hanger location and will allow for up to 14” of rear wheel travel when installed with this system. (Deaver Springs NOT included) This system has the option to retain the factory rubber bump stops or offers an upgrade to TC's bolt on Light Racing Jounce mounts. TC brackets were designed specifically to fit 3” travel Jounce bump stops which virtually eliminate harsh bottoming. They also feature external compression and rebound adjusters. (Light Racing Bump Stops Sold Separately)





What is needed to convert this to a 6 lug and what does it give up other than travel to a bed cage set up? How much travel would be lost if you extended your bump stops to keep the factory bed sides and flares as well?

Is there a cheaper way to do a spring under and keep your bed uncut?

 

I believe there was a reason they did not make a 6 lug kit. I think the only other way to keep the bed space but go long travel in the rear is a cantilever setup, however Im pretty sure its going to destroy your weight carrying capacity.

THat kit does NOT work on 6 lugs! THat silver 6 lug truck got all of that shit ripped off by DMZ. I saw it on jack stands and all of the junk in a pile on the shop floor at DMZ. There is a new kit that is coming out that will let you run the shocks in the stock location until you do a bed cage or shock hoops. I got to see it in action this last weekend it was pretty badass. The guy that builds it did have a basic simple bed cage in the truck. It was just shock hoops and a cross brace. The Engage Basic bed cage would work well with it. PM me for the details.

 

It does work. I saw it in person Saturday. thats the one I'm talking about.

 

When you do desert wheeling you will get more travel out of that setup then you ever would spring over. I pull 17"s strapped. but there are a few setups like the Giant Motor sports kit that will pull like 20"s of travel.

 

is there a way to get 3" of lift out of it, maybe longer shackles if that would work and does it come with shock hoops and limit straps?

Why are you fixated on a 3" lift? You dont want more lift than necessary for max handling off road. Let those guys with huge lifts wallow their truck around. A solid desert setup keeps you low, fast nimble.

The Defined Engineering kit is solid and well made. This kit allows you to use stock bedsides if you want and pull great travel numbers. Its made to keep your truck low. Mike tucks 295s into the fender wells with this kit.

 

I spoke with Nicole at Total Chaos about this and she said that they will not be offering a 6 lug variation of this kit. They didnt get the performance out of it and saw other kits out on the market that performed great in the same price range.

Total Chaos makes one of the best LT kits out there for our trucks so we can forgive them for not making this right?

You can lower your coilovers to even it out. Unless you have LT 3" is pushing your CVs if 4wd and spring rate on a 2wd into bad territory. Cranking down your coilovers too much for more lift kills the ride.

I assume your not doing it for looks since your looking at getting more travel not just lift. If its just for looks then I will

 

ya i have a prerunner, maybe i will crank them down a bit, but i figured i would try to find out if i could make them 3"

 

I guarantee that you will like the ride more with the coils lower. I have mine cranked all the way down on the driver side and only a tiny bit on the pass side.

 

i'm just gonna say it cause it hasn't been mentioned.

however, i'm sure it's more $$$ than the OP is wanting to spend but a cantilever set up is an option too.
