Does this mean what I think in that us auto trans guys can adjust the speed limiter on the dyno to hit redline in 4th gear?

@JustDSM we can save our current OEM tune correct? Then I imagine there will soon be oem stock calibrations for most years and TRD calibrations as well from which we will have a baseline.

This is probably what you meant when you wanted a thread/folder for consolidating files.
Then in time more custom and refined tunes will develop from there that are more specific to various mod configs as more tunes are developed for specific mods.
This is all a guess as I have no tuning experience but it makes sense to me.
Another bonus is the fact that if I for example came up with a killer tune for sc, 2.5 pulley, exhaust, intake, then the tune should be close for someone that has a similar setup. Not perfect but close. This means that future tunes will be much more refined for each mod configuration and will require less manipulation to dial in.

For someone who has no tuning experience you're asking the right questions!

Functionally, yes you can save your stock ECU. However it's a little more complicated than that with our application. But don't be alarmed, you connect the MPVI2 to your OBD2 port, plug in the USB, open VCM Editor, and click on the "Read Vehicle" icon. From there it'll initialize and do it's thing.

It'll take about a minute to download your data and display your defined parameters/tables/values/etc. It's CRITICAL you save this file, possibly in two locations for safe keeping. For tuning, you're going to have to make edits to this file and then SAVE AS a new file as you won't be able to put your vehicle back to stock unless you remember the changes you've made.

You can read your vehicle and any other supported vehicle's ECU/TCU at any time with the MPVI2. So if you have multiple vehicles or just want happen to be a curious little cat like me, you can see how other vehicles work. (Another perk to this system) Downloading the stock calibration file on a vehicle does NOT cost you credits. The credit system comes into play when you modify the stock calibration and reflash it back onto the vehicle. So you can view, save, and store all the files you want without costing you anything.

I'd like to build a repository for all the different trucks in Manual/Auto, 2.7L/4.0L, Supercharged/N/A configurations. HPTuners has a online repository for users, but there isn't a single Toyota calibration in there. I'd like to contribute there as it would help show the support from our application, but also keep a public one here (or at least linked here) for us to use.

If a truck gets tuned with a pretty common setup, a tune file developed on it could be used as a template on another, you are correct!

While I have my issues with the UCON (not so much the unit itself, just no access to tune it to MY liking), it does still serve a place I think. I don't think it's as viable an option now, for those who have a desire to really dial in their truck.

I have a question for those of you with the UCON/Supercharger combo.. Do you notice any part throttle lean areas under load? Say 20-50% throttle..

Since this is still in beta testing phase, has anyone seen any info or talked to HPtuners about what the end goal is for the beta testing? I'm curious whether that means they just want to see more user results or if they are planning further development. At what point would this be done with beta and made "official".

My UCON is never lean that I can tell. Either by gauge or in the data log.

    That's a great question, and one I can't answer.

I think I can at least go out on a limb and take a stab at it though.. Looking at other supported applications the ECU's are very well documented/defined giving the end user access to virtually every single parameter within. I can show you what a fully supported application looks like versus what we have currently, and while we have the basics available to us at this point, there's still a lot more to be unlocked. It's going to take a little time and ultimately show them the demand is there to move our application up the priority list. If only 2-3 of us use this (exaggeration..) we're not going to get what the other applications get.

But to your question.. I think we'll eventually see a fully defined ECU package where you virtually have full access to every possible parameter.

I think one of the biggest things on our side is the fact the Australian market is full of gear-heads like us, and they sure have a lot of these 1GR powered vehicles over there!

Good to know! I think that's a definite perk to that system, where it's fueling is constantly in a closed loop status.

    I gotcha!

What you're seeing is the VCM Suite software which consists of the editor and scanner (logger). The map/table/etc definitions for each ECU calibration are defined in the VCM Editor software. HPTuners has had the ability to flash the Toyota's since the MPVI2's release, but they had not defined the maps/tables/etc that you see in the screenshots I posted. Until these maps are defined, there isn't a way for us to tune the truck unless you're a software engineer type.

So the beta release of the VCM suite has the basic tables/maps for the Toyota's defined, allow us to tinker.

Getting to a fully supported state would be along the lines of my previous post. Ie: a fully defined ECU.

With this being said, it makes me wonder if say someone were to read my ecu which was dyno tuned by OV tuning, would we see what changes he has made if we compared it to stock tune. Very interesting stuff here.
