This and the rear diff in the Sport is smaller (wimpy) unless you go MT in the Sport.

The OR is the way to go hands down

The rear diff in all the non-OR/Pro/manual 3rd Gen trucks is the same one that's been in previous Gens. It's not going to explode or anything until you get to doing stuff where you should just replace the whole thing anyways... and maybe go SAS while at it.

OP, you get to live with this truck day in and day out. You get what you want. You can probably try another dealer or order to get what you want.

If I was going to do it over, I'd probably get an OR, but I'm not that attached to all the features and color that you are looking for. If you don't get the OR, you probably won't miss it one bit.

If you are going to romp around on the trails doing stuff that you might not aught to, you might want the locker.... or you can upgrade later while you are doing gears for those 35s you are going to put on.

I would say that more 4wd trucks (all brands) are sold without lockers than with. My local Ford dealer doesn't even stock F-150 4x4's with lockers.

My bad DK. I never though of using the locker as a welded diff.

My dealer has what your looking for in an OR but it is in cement. Also has a TRD sport in quicksand. Closest trucks in my ao to your needs/wants.

Out of curiosity I just did a search on cars.com. 4 quicksand 4x4 OR's with sunroof show up but all are used 2016 & '17's without leather. Wonder why that is, quicksand seems to be popular enough to warrant all the options...wtf?

Great input, and I agree. Most of my typical off-roading is trail riding with and without snow.

Here’s a reason (of many) for the locker.
I happened to come across a cut through the road from water where it had chewed a deep ravine in the road one time that I needed a locker to get over. I’m glad I had it at the time. Not a typical situation, but you never know

I would check Longo Toyota in Cali. Largest Toyota dealer in the country & can probably help you find it or maybe get it ordered. They do have a couple Quicksand OR's but both have Tech package only. Worth a call tho

Check out and contact Jeff Teague at Fred Anderson Toyota in Raleigh NC. He sells Toyotas to people all over the country! Just last week, a girl flew into Raleigh from Denver, to buy a toyota from him! He can take care of you! Here is his info:

I just ordered a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport in quicksand color, last Friday from my local dealer. It is actually being built this Friday April 5th, in Baja Mexico. I was initially looking at a SR5, but then I discovered that their Entune comes in only the audio plus configuration, which does not have built in navigation. What good is that? So I began looking at the TRD Sport because it comes with Entune Premium and also a bigger screen. As far as leather seats, I don't know if all dealers do it, but Fred Anderson Toyota in Raleigh NC actually OFFERS seat conversions or upgrades for those who buy Toyotas that don't even come or offer leather seats. They actually do it right there at the dealership. These are NOT cheap seat covers, but complete REAL leather seat fabric that is made for the vehicle. Here is a link to a video shot at that dealership, that shows exactly how they do it. Pretty cool! By the way, it is a $1500 option to have it done on a Tacoma 4-door. I will put the contact info below for Jeff Teague. He has a cool youtube channel where he puts out great information on all toyota models.

Entune navigation is not worth it. Some day it may cost me a new head unit once I punch the shit out of it. And I am not sure if you can hit it enough times to get all the shit out of it.

I totally get it, countrylivn. I had to have quicksand too! When I first started this quest, I had no idea I was going to end up getting a TRD Sport! I was just looking at the SR5. But I do like the turn signals on the side mirrors, as well as the Entune Premium navigation built in. I also like the slightly larger wheels on the TRD. Overall, I think it was a slightly better value for the money, and I didn't need 4wd. the insurance on 4wd vehicles is much higher than 2wd, and there is just that much more to go wrong, to me. I have been using my truck as just a personal vehicle, and not a "work truck". This new one is also just going to be a personal vehicle. It is just that after one has owned a truck, you just don't want to go back to a car ever again. It is nice to just "throw" stuff in the back. It is especially easy to throw luggage back there, when going to the airport, instead of trying to somehow fit it into the small trunks of today's cars, and ending up bungieing up luggage piled on top of each other, with the truck tied down, on a regular car! they are building my truck this Friday, April 5, and I just hope the border is not going to be closed, so my truck will get up here to northern California!

Nice! I'd like to see those running boards. I have the oval ones & they really don't stick out far enough to step on.

    So are you with TFS?
