I will admit I test drove a 2014 certified yesterday while my 19 was in for its first service. I've had 7 tacomas, all gens and was feeling nostalgic towards my old 2nd gens.I will say its noticeably better than the 3.5 6spd powertrain. However thats it. Every other thing about the 3rd gen is better, interior, features, function, etc.

It really depends on whats important to you. But for me the powertrain isnt terrible sure not as smooth as the 2nd gens' but I wouldnt trade that for the million better things about the 3rd gen. As soon as I got in it I felt like I was in a truck from the 90's, the interior is so dated and boring and cheap feeling, would be hard to go back. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not racing it. I just go on a lot of long weekend road trips in the summer with gear and I need a 4wd pickup for work and hauling.

Not complaining about mpg. Just noticed a difference. I guess I assumed 3rd gen would be better, and that wasn't my experience.

The Tacoma is a perfect vehicle for my lifestyle/needs. My 2014 did fine on the interstate. No complaints. Loved it. The 2018 just plain sucked on the interstate in comparison. Around town the 3rd gen felt zippier than the 2014 and I liked it. But on the hiway, nope.

I'm not ragging on 3rd gen. It's a nice little truck. Just sharing my thoughts, as a long time Tacoma owner.

Well I bought mine for $30,500 two years ago and now it’s worth $60,000 it’s doubling every two years. I’ll keep it until 2030 and sell it for nearly $2million

Same here. The only issue that i had was the AC blower motor recall. I use to have a 2012 that the only issue I had was a brake recall. Both trucks are awesome, but honestly, I like my 3rd gen better.

Some 2nd gen owners in serious denial here, trying real hard to justify their now 4-14 year old trucks as somehow better while crapping on something they have little to no experience with (3rd gens)...

If the 2nd gen doubles in value the third triples in value. My uncle is an engineer and don't mind my A.D.D. that means I know math and could work for NASA. If you trade in your truck someone else will do the same thing after they buy it and they will trade it in for a 3rd gen too. Now the maths kicks in. That second gen was sold twice while the third gen only sold once which means the seconds are selling more that the thirds per capita. At this point in reading this you probably already traded so now trade back and buy a house with all that extra loot you made off those stupid sales men. Im going to need some more information to finish this post and someone demanded personal information before they could return an insult. That sums it up.

I loved my 2013 trd sport but it lacked a lot of creature comforts that the 3rd gen offers. Both are great trucks but I prefer my newer one.
I actually prefer the 3.5 powertrain and the transmission. I drive like a senior and I average about 25-37mpg on the highway and 20-22 in city

I'm going to try to stay unbiased because I actually did just trade my 2015 TRD PRO inferno for a 2019 TRD OR 4x4.

I loved my 2015 TRD PRO......bad ass PRO felt capable of going anywhere......except it was just a mall crawler for me as I never even took it on a dirt road. It looked cool, had lots of power, was very reliable (except the brakes that I had to keep doing) and yes I probably spent too much money on extras (light bar, seat covers, front spacer & aal, etc) but I got good $$$ on it when I traded it in.

My new 2019 TRD OR feels more refined and has a bit of a "cushier" ride. It has crawl control and some other 4x4 features that I might never use but I'm glad it has them. The 3.5L does feel a bit slow off the line but it drives just fine especially using the ECT button all the time and I'm not afraid to drive it like I stole it! I hammer the gas pedal when I need it and use 4th gear going up the local toll road long incline. It shifts just fine and I can tell it's designed to be more fuel efficient. In my case it's NOT more fuel efficient then my pervious 2015 but it's because I drive it like it's my b*tch!..LOL

While I loved my previous TRD PRO, I was kinda "over" the inferno orange color and it was starting to feel dated especially seeing the newer 3rd gens driving around all the time for the past couple of years. I love the cement color of my new Taco and have already added new rims and tires and a pro grille. The TRD PRO while it was "rare" didn't feel like anything special. After all it was just a taco that was modded from the factory that anyone could do themselves and for much cheaper.....and the Orange is just a color and either you love it or hate it. My new Taco OR feels just as capable and looks bad ass IMO and because it's a Toyota I'm expecting the reliability to be just a good. I purposely waited for a couple years so the 3rd gen bugs would go away and also to get the cement color without buying the PRO which I didn't need.

I'm super happy on my decision and don't listen to all the crap on here from either side whether the 2nd gen is better then the 3rd gen or vice versa…..it's YOUR choice and make it based on YOUR likes and dislikes because it's YOUR money!!…..and if I ever get sick of the Taco I can always get something else down the line......like maybe a 2021 Lexus version of the Taco with the RCF V8 pumping out 467hp!!!....1 can only dream!!!20181207_092919_resized.jpg 20190327_181725.jpg

3" lift on 33 inch Nitto's with 18" Fuel wheels. N-Fab step bars. Husky floor liners.
It still looks show room new and only has 40k miles on it. 30 plus easy and that's the reality of it.
