Yep it was $95 ish after tax. Thats at my local liquor store, wouldn't be surprised if they jacked the price up a little bit. Probably could have gotten it cheaper at Total Wine.

When TW has it it's $59. They have the best prices out of anyone, but they are a chain and I don't get a lot of the hard to get stuff as regularly as other places. My TW says they are towards the end of the delivery route and the Bay Area stores get more of those allocated bottles.

Edit - just checked and it's listed for $57.99 and the Toki is $29 (it's in stock).

Just got a bottle of Toki over the weekend. Really liked it a lot. Looking forward to trying other stuff.

Toki is good. Its different, very light and almost sweet tasting. Kinda reminded me of a single malt scotch.

    Depends which Hibiki it was.

"Japanese Whisky" is a broad term like "Bourbon" and Hibiki is a brand like Elijah Craig is a brand. Suntory is the parent company (Beam Suntory). Hibiki Japanese Harmony for $95 is a tad pricey, unless it is the Limited Edition bottle or Master's Select. If it was an age stated Hibiki, that's a heck of a find.

The age stated stuff from Hibiki, Yamazaki, Hakushu, etc. is where most of the inflated prices are coming from. The Japanese whisky boom was real and it was big (still is, I suppose). Not enough stock over there to keep filling age stated bottles, so most stock is getting blended for the other expressions.

My local store has a section of Japanese whiskies. It's small, but has around 15 or so different ones that are always stocked at MSRP. He did just sell a Yamazaki 12 for $100, but it was a raffle item, unfortunately.

Generally speaking, I really like Japanese whiskies. Not all, but most. Tend to be very clean, pure tasting.

I'm just polishing off the last of my Four Roses Single Barrel OBSV. I think this is my favorite bourbon so far. Actually, I know it. Sadly the local TW is out and it doesn't look like they're going to restock it soon. I found another TW a bit away that had it, so tomorrow I'm going for a little drive and will stock up.

Which whiskey did you like, but wouldn't go out of your way for?
