Pinstripe removal advice

I really want my pinstripes gone, but i am really afraid of it leaving behind shadows or marks. i am super hesitant but am determined to do this. does anyone have a good method they used on theres? btw my truck is black and the pinstripes have been on since i bought it. also my mom had like an extra clearcoat put on? will that affect it?

 

Use a heat gun or a hair dryer and just peel them off. I'd do an inconspicuous spot first to see what the paint looks like underneath. GL

have you removed yours? and does goo be gone hurt the paint? i plan to reclay and wax the truck directly after removal

 

Extra clear coat? If actual clear coat you're going to end up with lines down the side where the clear coat used to be. If you know a reputable body shop they might be able to sand the clear down into the lower layer or try and spot paint the lines. Not sure if one of those "pinstripe wheels" or whatever they are that attach to a drill will work any better or not.

I removed mine but the truck had some body work done to the driver side doors and clear was put over the pinstripes. My idiot self did those two doors last so it had to come off...now I have 2 stripes where the second clear coat is missing.

Rub your finger over all of the pin striping. If you can always feel the edge of the vinyl then I would think it has not been clear coated. Depending on how much sun damage you have there could be discoloration but nothing you couldn't take care of with cleaning products.

 

well i live in a very cloudy place. not much sun at all. i think i will take it to the dealer and see if they will remove them the next time i get my oil changed

 

Peel em off. Then goo gone. Then Meguirs Scratch X which is very very mild compound. Then regular wax. Just did my 07 black sand. Worked perfectly

3M Stripe Off Wheel, takes about 30 minutes, then wash and wax.

Easiest and safest! Heat can hurt your paint, cause bubbling and chiping if you are not careful. Goo Gone works, but takes a long ass time, and you run the risk of scratching when peeling the stripes off (depending on what you use, you finger nail will take forever if the stripes have been on for a while). Peeling them, you may also peel the colored stripe side away from the rubber baking and then you have to peel that off too, pain in the a$$.

I used the Stripe Off Wheel, worked great!

LOL. I read this thinking I'd find out how to get rid of those scratch marks you get in the woods. Wrong pin stripe.

 

That's not "clear coat"...

That's a 500 dollar...15 minute...liquid...spray on...wash off...dealer wax job.

Sorry, wrong thread, this is for artificial pinstripes, not nature's pinstripes. I would try a scratch remover of some sort. Good luck!

 

i actually did mine by accident. i was washing my truck with our pressure washer and wasnt paying attention and held it to long on the pin stripes and it just tore them. off. so i just went down the truck with the pressure washer. and there gone. haha. wouldnt advise this though...lol

 

i know. but i didnt know better and neither did my mom. its ok.

 

I took them off of the 2005 I bought last week. They had been on the truck since new. Truck sat out in the sun and it was close to 100. I peeled mine off in less than 5 minutes. There was just a little adhesive residue left. I used 3M adhesive remover to get that off. Looks nice now. All pin stripes are different. The cheap ones come off really easy. I have taken some off that left all of the adhesive residue on the paint. It took more work but still came off without any damage to the paint. You can use a heat gun or even a hair dryer to warm up the glue so the stripes will release easier. If you use a heat gun just keep it moving and don't leave it in one place too long or it can damage the paint.

 

I would think if you do this, clay bay and wax the truck after and there shouldn't be any issues with fading.

 

A heat gun on low, will not hurt the paint at all. Just keep it movin and don't point it at one spot too long. Iused a heat gunto removemy pinstrips and my badges.
