FWIW - I just picked up a new 2019 TRD OR, and am going to spring for Toyo Extra Care simply for the electronics. I am also going to pick it up ASAP, even with <150 miles on my truck. The sooner I pick it up, the less chances of the terms changing or the program discontinuing. Before you call me nuts, Trek bikes dropped their extended warranty/service program. I picked that up on the last day, and it more than paid for itself in bike parts and repairs.

Yes, Toyotas are solid and dependable, but the electronics in them are relatively new, and may get buggy in 5 years time.

    Cheers!

My truck has 33k miles, and I am struggling with this. On one hand, I'm cheap and don't want to spend the money on the warranty. On the other, I don't want to get stuck with an expensive repair down the road, because I'm cheap. lol.

I bought a used 16 TRD Sport Double Cab short bed. The truck still had 7 months of the factory bumper to bumper coverage. I added 7 year platinum level extended warranty from Toyota. I have had other vehicles that needed serious repairs when out of warranty, and I am more of a person who does not like making payments and being out of warranty.

Yes, Toyota makes a great product. But my truck, with 2.5 years and 20 k on the odometer had a leak near a cam sensor. Very unusual issue for the truck, the service manager who has worked on these for years had never seen this. But the repair was a few days long and would have cost more than the cost of the warranty. It could happen at any time.

Whatever helps you sleep at night...

Everything service managers see are "very unusual and they've never seen it." Sales managers gets mad when service managers say things like "ya we see leaky engines all the time." Not saying your issue is common, just saying service managers are a slight step above used car salesman.

As for your issue possibly happening at any time, yes, that's true. But for the most part if you have a toyota and it makes it to 60k with no issues, its gonna make it to 200k with no issues. Most of the nasty issues due to errors in manufacturing show up early. Extended warranties cover the most reliable timespan for your car.

For me the peace of mind is having someone not working at a dealership work on my car in the rare event something goes wrong between 36k and 100k or (60/100 for powertrain). My last toyota had nothing but routine maintenance til I totaled it at 160k.

2800 is too much u can get them down 1000 to 1500! It saved my ass so far had the hood replaced at 30k, leaf squeak pads TSB, steering column leaking oil at 67k that was about 2k... other small things! Keep in mind they will always try to find an excuse to avoid doing work under warranty. It’s a pain that u have to deal with it but make sure it’s a Toyota warranty that works for any dealer

This thread argument again, tell the guy who just had to have his injectors replaced to the tune of $2k at 60k miles if its a rip off...I paid $1050 for 6yrs/125k Toyota Platinum w/no deductible, one stupid BSM or TSS or injector issue or other random thing and it'll pay for itself. Its like anything else in life a roll of the dice, I paid more for my riding helmet and boots, shit I'm sure more people here pay more just eating out over the year, or those sweet mall crawler tire and wheel setups they had to have. I love the logic here sometimes.

Toyota gave me an 8yr 125K mile bumper to bumper warranty on my 2018 due to issues with my 2017. For piece of mind and given all the electronics in these trucks, I wanted one anyway. I agree with many others, it can be had for much cheaper.

    .
IMO ... I would shop around to different dealers and get only a ... Toyota Corporate Platinum Warranty .... they are the very best IMO.

    I am at 25,000 and 35 months and just got a 10 year, 125,000 with $00.00 deductible.

These are complicated trucks and you can drop $2,000 to $4,000 on a repair real fast.

Whatever you do .... READ THE FINE PRINT CLOSELY .... many don't cover much and they tend to weasel out of a lot of things ... that's why I like only the ... Toyota Corporate Platinum Warranty ... with New Toyota parts used in repairs.

I am NOT a fan of some of the Toyota Regional Distributor Warranties though.
SET has one that the SET dealers sell and I am NOT a fan of that warranty.
READ THE FINE PRINT CLOSELY and GOGGLE THEM for Complaints.

Can you buy the warranty after you have had the truck a year or two but it is less than 3 years old and has less than 36k miles on it?
