So as to not hijack this thread, I'll point out there is a discussion thread for the Tradesman aluminum toppers here, but yes I'm liking the double doors, would definitely go for it again. It is roughly 6" higher than the cab.

I ordered some “blemished” bed stiffeners from Rago and only one had a blemish the size of a grain of rice. Stainless steel and Veteran owned. They get ya vote.

It's an ARE MX shell...no problem with that model it's just I had the topper installed before the bed stiffeners and they drilled a hole to run the wires right where the TC stiffener would bolt to the bedside. It was easier to switch to a shorter bed stiffener than to re drill and rewire the topper in my opinion.

After having one installed for over a year, I have to say these things are quite the knee magnets. The brand doesn't matter. Causes huge display of aurora cursealis. Every frigging' single time I crawl around in the bed.

^^^^ This is backwards. Stainless can never be as strong as good carbon steel. Never, ever, not ever. You always sacrifice strength for stain resistance if all other properties are held equal.

Good stainless will only outperform shitty carbon steel, but never the really strong stuff.

No, because the composite box is not very weak, it is very strong, which is why no one breaks them. The “marketing” (lying) above is what makes me scratch my head about these things. There’s just not a lot of evidence around pointing to them doing anything other than giving you something to talk about on the forums and lash a bungee to. The original idea of the “stiffener” was to save the metal part of of the bedside that would sometimes crack before Toyota enlarged the radius of the circular notch in the bent part of the metal, when guys would run with no tailgate. Lately :notsure:

Anyways.....a cool spot to lash your bungee for sure, but most likely they weaken your beside by drilling all them
    holes. Rust never sleeps.

I may still get a set :anonymous:

It's still an open "U" with only the corner light wells in the way of bracing. Load it up with a cap that is similarly an upside down open "U" that depends on bedwall stiffnes to for support then load that cap with a rack mounted RTT and take it offroad. No, it won't rust and is in most ways better than the old sheet metal bed and walls but it's not invincible. No force pushing out on the bed rails? No problem and not needed but for many it's more than just a bit of cool swag.

I was fortunate enough to get some of Bentrodder's as he was local to me before he was shut down. With my cap and the loads it is occaisionally called upon to carry it was good for piece of mind as well as the extra tie downs.
