It would not show what changes OV made to your truck unfortunately.

A few posts ago, @Roostfactor asked about saving the stock tune files. I replied with a bit of vagueness. That's because these ECU's including other Toyota's such as the Tundra which are also supported by HPTuners, are not able to pull the ECU calibration from the OBD2 port like other vehicles.

If you can recall the days when OVTune first started posting about the reflashing of our ECU he was asking people about their ECU numbers (what HPTunes refers to as Operating System) and he would say if that ECU version was supported or not? And if it wasn't he'd ask that it be sent to him? While these ECU's can't be read from the OBD2 port they can be read by other means. So what was done, was OVTune got all the calibrations and built a library, so his handheld tuner could connect to some database and reference the version of your ECU's Operating System. The server would then upload a file based off of the Operating System version your ECU used.

The "read" that HPTuners and any other "tuner" does with our vehicle is what's known as a "virtual read". It's not actually reading the file off of your ECU. It's using the Operating System version to identify within HPTuner's server what your ECU calibration is, then downloading that calibration they've removed from a ECU of your Operating System version for you to edit.

Once you have this file, your tuning should be done on a copy of that file, saving your original in a safe place. Thankfully our ECU can be written to from the OBD2 port (how Toyota flashes the TRD tune) and that's what allows us to write modified calibrations back to the ECU from the OBD2 port.

So in your case @Murphinator, if you were to use the HPTuners system, you'd get a stock file for your ECU's Operating System version. You'd "lose" the OVTune you have. Though I think with some strategic datalogging, you could very easily replicate the tune.

It's a little complex and MUCH different than what I was used too, so I didn't want to overwhelm you guys with all that as posts were blowing up the other night... Hope that makes sense..

Thanks!!! And thank you now and in the future with your detailed posts. Its readily apparent you want to help and teach us and I know I'm a sponge :D

    My UCON never runs lean.

I turned in a ticket with HPT so get my order linked to my account. I sent a thank you to them and a link to this forum so if they come on here they will see the interest and can possibly chime in on developments, etc.

I understand how engines work, I just dont know where to start with modifying the tune like what is step 1 through 100 for tuning?
(You dont need to answer, the answer will come in time).
Obviously doing a whole tune from a baseline will require different steps than if the tune is already close requiring only minimal tweaking.
There are so many different tables/parameters to tweak and I'm certain there are standard steps you follow and in a certain sequence when tuning.
I'm guessing here but if the ideal sequence isnt followed you may have to go back to tables you've already manipulated and redo them due to one table manipulating another.

@JustDSM, that thing you borrowed a long time ago....are you doing anything with that idea? Now may be a good time to move forward with that.

Good to have another datapoint on the UCON fueling ability. Do you or any of the other guys running the UCON have the ability to get a datalog of a single gear pull? I've got some futher questions, but we'll take that to PM since it's not really necessary or relevant to the discussion here..

I was just about to get HPT's attention turned over here! Good on you for taking the initiative and hopefully getting them involved here. I really am excited that the ability to tweak our ECU is finally available to us. As some of you may know I've been waiting for a long time and really wanted to bring my experience to the Tacoma and further our platform. Thank you for the kind words Roost!

Regarding that thing.. I had put it on the back burner, but with recent developments I believe I might pursue that avenue again. :)

@BassAckwards could you send me a single gear datalog when you get a chance?

@JustDSM, what gear do you want?

I also may be able to send you a copy of utune arch which is what we use to view the datalogs. If not I, or @loginfailed will have to interpret the data you want.

I don’t need anything crazy. Say a 2nd gear pull from ~2000RPM. If you can get it from a manual truck that would be ideal, but a log from an auto will work.

If you can get me the software that would be great and make it easier to poke around, but a screenshot would suffice I believe.

@BassAckwards has a UCON, manual, larger injectors (if installed), smaller sc pulley, full headers/exhaust and a few other goodies. That's why I tagged him your request.

You are wanting a WOT pull correct?
@BassAckwards has a bunch with multiple gear pulls. Will that work?

I have a 2nd thru 4th gear WOT pull i am about to send @Roostfactor for you. Should be some good info in there for you. I had run the truck 250 miles since resetting the battery when i took that data log so it had learned most of the fueling by that point. Scott told me the adaptives were near zero

E85 tune sounds nice. Coding for our ECU to control an ECA and controlling a 7th injector would be ideal!! :D
