What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I hit them with the hose and some dry lube tonight. I have looked at the driver side the other day, it’s fine and I have a passenger spindle on order so I’ll have eyes on the passenger side next week hopefully.

 

I’ve had cracks for years all the way through on both sides in that location, like 3 layers of sheet metal but still hasn’t busted all the way through on the bottom.

I think I’m gonna do 2in .065 square tube and gusset the shit out of it to the rest of the core support for the new cross member the body mounts sit under

It deserves saying I replaced the core support many years ago with aftermarket shit, lotta work and not enough invested in the parts

 

Just cut it all off and make a new one.

I’ve thought about it, my inner fenders are all messed up too, bought it with rebuilt title. I thought of caging the front from the cab forward or bending up my own inner fenders but I can’t take the downtime, daily driver.

I have a donar truck, plan to do a complete swap, my current bed is messed up too

 

Do our transmissions also have the vin tag on them?

 

So I think it did help a bit. Might need to actually need take the bolt out and clean it. Ill just hit it for a few days with lube until then and see if it goes away.

 

Yeah lubing them worked for me for quite awhile...eventually when the sound keeps coming back more frequently you'll have to look into replacing the bearings but it's an easy job to DYI and Wheelers sells them

I dont see any icon bearings at wheelers.

 

I just got the ToyTech lift. I went ahead and had them assemble them, it came with new bushing and all. The rear was an add a leaf..

Overall, it was pretty easy and fast to install.

 

Unless Icon is different from King, Fox and the rest, they should just use the standard

COM10 spherical bearings that the rest of the performance coilovers use. @JKO1998 linked some above. Wheelers carries them too.

When you do decide to swap them out for new ones, you might want to get some new misalignment spacers as well (the little spacers that go on either side of the bearing). I ended up just reusing my original ones but sometimes they can get damaged I guess. Mine were just dirty. Those I had to order from 4WP but they sent me the wrong ones, but luckily my old ones were still good to use.

I'm positive 02 - 05 calipers are 13WL

 

Not all 1st gen Tundras. The early Tundras were 199mm and had problems with warping. The 231mm 13WL is the fix for the undersized early rotors.

The 199mm was 13WS or 13WG or something like that. Can't remember off the top of my head.

Going to the sand dunes this weekend by myself and figure these might come in handy, ordered a cheap knock-off set off Amazon so hopefully they hold up. Couldn't really justify the $350 that Maxtrax wants for their's so knockoffs it is.

Yeah I haven't pulled the trigger on any for this long because I've never really been in a situation where I'd need them, I rarely wheel in mud but I did find myself in a few snow/ice situations this season where they may have come in handy. But in the sand dunes I can definitely see where I might need them especially since I'm going solo this time.

Plus I usually have to find and stack rocks to level out the RTT when we camp so they'll at least come in handy for that like you said.
