Question for the Amsoil people: If you're going 25K miles between changes or 1 year, and say something bad does go wrong with your motor, how can the dealer be expected to uphold the warranty if you didn't do oil changes at the recommended 5k miles?

the 3k oil change is a fictitious creation of the express car lube industry.

think about it, if take your car in for an oil change every 3k then in 15k miles you will have had 5 oil changes instead of the MANUFACTURER recommended 3... and at $25 per change that's an extra $50 for them to make... now multiply that $50 by the number of customers they have and it adds up fast!

not only that, the 3k oil change wastes oil...

I'm changing mine every 10k miles but i'm gonna keep a false set of records saying i did it every 5k until my warranty is out. after that i will just use the accurate records. 5k is a waste of time money and oil if you're running synthtic. with the advances in modern engines and oils you rarely have oil related engine damage anymore

    yeah that's just nuts...

i'm sure your local Toy dealership will honor your warrenty if you use synthetic lubes as the manufacturer spec's.

well, he isnt the first one to question K&N's filtering properties as far as letting stuff into your engine...

there is more info out there if you dig for it.

Yeah, i once was a K&N filter owner but then over came the hype and went back to Toyota paper filters and with over 230k on my 4Runner, havent looked back.

So FU FJ, you are saying just stick with the OEM filter? What about the the Fram and other paper filters?

I admit I was a K&N user too and thought about getting one for the taco till this.

Would like to see what you say about other paper filters.

    Later, Dave

i cant speak for other paper filters, but i can say without hesitation that the Toyota OEM filters are specifically designed for the Toyota engine.

hmm, first time i've seen this and I gotta say this is in line with my view of K&N. its snake oil. I've listened to too many experiences over the years about the K&N witchcraft. There is just no worthy benefit to the street user, especially. this has been around for a number of years on other taco boards: MAF sensor failure--and the common thread?A K&N filter. Take it for what its worth and make your decision

well, it's really a technical question i was asking. It is more of an administrative question regarding warranty. I just don't see how you can expect a manufacturer to honor a warranty claim when you're doing 25,000 mile oil changes???? unless, you're fudging maintenance records

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
bradn88, just down the road from you in Mass. my dealer says every 5K, I think your dealer is trying to make a few xtra dollars. Syn oil is the best oil for xtreme conditons, hot or cold and in general you can change that out every 6k or so.
If you follow Toyota's maint schedule using good quality oil and filters you will have no problems.
I have 11K on my truck and have been using "dino" oil changing every 4-5K. In the fall I will switch to Mobil or Castrol full syn, I have used Mobil 1 in my girlfriends Subie for 100miles and our Subie tech's say it really helps.
