I have the All-pro Standard leaf pack and I'm looking to get a bit more ride height and capacity out of it. Does anybody know if I would have any problems installing an OME D29XL in the pack? Are there any issues that arise from having mismatched leaf springs?

Dan from Wheelers seems to think the D29XL should probably be okay. He was unsure about the Wheelers AAL though.

I wrote All-pro but they never got back to me.

    Thanks for any advice.

Interested in this. I'd rather do this if it works than fork over for custom packs. Where in the pack would it go?

Not sure exactly where. Wherever it fits to keep the length of the leafs staggered.

I'll report back if/when we do it.

Arb front bumper, warn winch, All Pro rear bumper, OME up front, OME and All Pro Standard in Back, ARB locker, 34 x 10.5 KO2's, 17" Level 8 Trackers, and fancy single piece driveshaft.
Jesse, did you decide on the D29XL's? I have a similar setup and similar problem. Also, I noticed that you have 5160's in back. Are they long enough if you get a little more lift from the rear springs? How is the length now? My OME's have about 70k on them now and have seen better days. I grew up in Mankato, and lived in Mpls for about 20 years. Both are nicer cities than Denver, but Denver is so much warmer.

Yo. I've decided to go with the D29's.... I just haven't gotten around to ordering them yet. Now that you've reminded me, I'll probably do it today.

I'll let you know how it goes. The standard all-pro packs have been great with the 5160's. I've had zero issues with the setup. But you have a point about adding more height. I don't expect the D29 to add a crazy amount of lift. Especially considering that the all-pro's have settled a bit since being installed. So this AAL will probably put me closer to the way they used to be.

If anybody is reading this though, if you plan on using your bed, get the expo packs.

do you have the factory overload in still? I'm planning on adding mine just to be able to route the e brake cable correctly. the bolt in location on the standard doesn't seem like the best spot.

Got it done this morning. It was a bit more of a pain in the ass than we were expecting - but luckily my friend is awesome at fab and just making things work, so we got it done.

The problem were those 4 retainer clips around the allpro pack. 2 of them are bent around the pack, holding it tight. The other 2 uses a cross-bolt with a sheathe in the middle. If you look at your pack you'll immediately see what I'm talking about. But none of these clips allowed for any extra room for the AAL. For the 2 that are pre-bent around the pack we got the torch out, heated them up, and then bent them straight up.

Then we drilled holes and used cross-bolts for those.

For the other two, the existing cross-bolts worked just fine, but we had to lose the sheath in the middle. So now all 4 clips use a cross-bolt. The thinking is, this will make it easier to pull the pack apart in the future if we want to change anything else.

The Dakar leaf itself fit in really well. We put it in the 4th position from the top (this is including the odd half-leaf on top of the all-pro pack), and it staggers nicely with the surrounding leafs.

I'm now sitting at 24 3/4" of lift. This single leaf gave me just over 1 1/2" of lift - which is way more than I was expecting. But I for one love rake on a truck, so I'm totally cool with it. I also expect it will settle a bit too.

The ride home I didn't really notice any extra stiffness (with only ~100lbs in the bed). Maybe a little, but it doesn't bother me at all.

We obviously had to modify those retainer clips, but so far so good, and I guess we don't really expect any problems to arise from the way we did it. I also ordered new center pins from Wheelers and they were plenty long enough. Also put in a pair of his Superbumps while we were down there. :dancingbacon:

so let me ask since im highly considering all pros (was standards for awhile but then got to thinking expos for weight) with 5160s and 6112s up front, im planning on having a bed rack with rtt and tool box along with various expo gear (camp stuff/coleman road tripper and such) for when i do go out will the 5160s have enough travel and what not for the expos? the bed rack will probably stay on all the time. maybe not the tent but the rack for sure unless it interferes with something im going to be doing. thanks in advance man

I finally got around to doing this tonight after seeing your post in December. The leafs have been sitting in the garage since February. I put the spring in the same location which was the only spot it really fit well. I started to heat and bend those clamps, what a pain in the ass! All I have is a small propane torch, and I don't have a shop bench or vice, so I'm down on my knees. I got one straight then said fuck it, grabbed the cutoff wheel and 30 seconds later they were gone. I picked up new leaf clamps at AutoZone. With the other cross bolts was able to keep the sheaths when I reinstalled. I used a shop press for that, so I was able to compress everything down and the sheaths fit just fine. Honestly, I don't know how I would have gotten the packs back together without a press. Tomorrow I'll slap em back in then I'm off to the shop to get the B.A.M.F shock towers welded in for my 12" Billies.

Also, I forgot to measure the fender hight before tearing it down so I won't be able to report the amount of lift.

Put everything back together today and there's no way I got less than two inches of additional lift in the ass. My fenders are 42 3/4" off the ground measured at the hub (quarter tank of gas, water and gas cans empty, nothing in the bed. The worn down 9 year old 33" tires look tiny, looks like it'll be 35's soon with a regear. The local fab shop is swamed "building" bolt together Jeeps so it may be a few weeks before I can get in and have the B.A.M.F shock towers and front cab mount chop done.

Pic of the cut off clamps

I alligned the front hanger bolt hole with a ratchet strap around the axel and slider.

    IMG_0008.jpg

A shot of the spring clamps I added to replace what I cut off. Much easier than heating and straightening out the existing ones.

That's awesome. It's good you decided to just cut and replace those brackets, because our 'homemade' brackets were causing me a bit of an issue. Long story short, the top leaf wasn't being held down properly and was flopping around creating a bunch of noise.

I still love my 3+ inches of rake. It's amazing how much a single Dakar leaf can make a difference lol.

Are you guys running the overload leaf with the standard pack? I still have my brand new overload leaf I left out of my 3 leaf AAL. I got a used set of standard leafs but can I add the overload leaf and this single leaf AAL or possibly the 3 leaf AAL into the Allpro standards to get an expo pack ?

I don't understand the question. What overload leaf? From a stock Tacoma leaf pack? The All-Pro packs are full replacements of your stock leaf pack.

I wouldn't bother with AAL's. If you have a standard pack and want more out of it, I would add an extra full leaf like above. I obviously used a Dakar leaf with mixed results, but maybe you could get one from Allpro too.

My best advice is to just get rid of the Allpros and get an HD Dakar pack.

Fell onto a set of All Pro Expos, gonna try my hand at breaking them down to replace the shims and inter leaf liners.

Was pretty unsure about how to tackle the retainers, after going through the thread I think I’ll just cut em since they’re pretty banged up already and replace them with the ones like these.

    Shims?

I didn't think any shims were on the springs ?

    How'd they turn out?

I'm thinking about rebuilding my All Pro Expos and removing a leaf. As I don't haul that much gear most of the time (too stiff for every day).

my pack has shims, ended up cleaning and reusing them. Ordered new sleeves, bushings, and leaf liners from all pro, low range off road. Turned out pretty good.

Ah, couldn't see them in the pics.

Did the previous owner add the shims or were they from all pro?

Couldn't say if they came like that from all-pro or added from my buddy. Best guess is the came with em from all-pro, don't really see my buddy breaking them down just to install shims
