Anyone going to the Portland swap meet? Stop by space 6132 at the Raceway and say hello. I’ll have a few extra chairs and cold beer for anyone here wanting to rest a bit.

For the turd gen'rs out there. Have any of you replaced your HPFP? The chirping on mine seems to be getting louder. Looks like T-SB-0016-18 addresses it. T-SBs are covered by the dealership, correct?

    Will do

They quoted me $100 an hour. For a whole tub it might make sense to rent a blaster and get several guys to go in and split the cost

I have a "portable" 110lb one already. Did the frame with it and it wasnt bad. $100 an hour doesnt sound bad. With an industrial setup they should be able to get it done in an hour or two. I called one place and they wanted 100 an hour plus a 300 "handling" fee. And a 4 hour minimum charge. My response was "ya know, if you dont want the work just fing say that instead of quoting me BS" and hanging up

Just be sure to clean everything really well with some brake cleaner before you weld it.

It depends on the issue, but a lot of TSBs apply whether you are in or out of warranty.

Yeah Ive really found I get pissy with people who just waste both our time doing BS quotes like that. Which is kind of funny cause those that do that shit Ill never call again. The few companies ive dealth with that just turn down the work right away I usually end up going back to for other stuff.

I haven't had mine replaced, but I have noticed that it's less noisy with Costco gas and noiser with Fred Meyer gas. Could all be in my head though.

How many miles do you have? Washington is covered under the California Emissions Control warranty rules, and the HPFP is covered for 7 years or 70,000 miles.

I just ordered a Coastal Offroad bumper kit that I need to weld together and I have a few questions. I have a MIG setup that I am currently running flux core wire in. Should I upgrade to gas shielding for better results on 3/16ths steel and do you guys think this is something im going to be able to glue together with decent technical knowledge but not much practice?

Looks like a pretty easy kit to do. Lots of tacking it together and then you can just stitch weld it and grind down. Long as you are comfortable in your welds (ie getting penetration) I'd say do it.

As for flux vs shielded.....up to you. If you dont weld much flux will work fine. Gas will leave cleaner welds but you are going to be grinding anyways for the bumper. But if you buy a bottle you'd also have 5+ years (depending on the hydro) to use up the gas.

Dont do enough to really justify the bottle and you make some good points about it not really being visible too.

In which case I'd just stick to flux core if thats what you are used to.

I only breifly looked at the kit over at ih8mud but looks like its just all the pieces precut so its more just an assembling it than having to do any sort of fabricating. Tack it every 6" or so then just do some stitch welding to keep the temps down and keep it from warping. Then grind everything smooth.
