Negative. My friends dad has found 3 but has been at it for decades. He found 2 in the same hole

My buddy found a melted one. Its definitely at the top of my list.

Yeah it does. My family migrated here at the turn of the century to work the mines.

Was pretty stoked on that spur too, awesome piece of Americana

Do you get up into Northern Nevada often? My buddy and I detect for gold up there and are getting dialed in on the coin machines so we can branch out.

Just found this thread. No experience as yet, but after watching the "detectorists" on Amazon, we are looking to give this a try. I found a Fisher 1265-X for sale for $50. Is it worth buying as a starter detector? Thanks for any pointers.

Yeah I have been up there quite often. Not sure where in ca you are but from what I have seen /heard the gold rush era stuff in ca by far have highest yield of gold/ seated coins.... maybe it's a case of the grass is always greener, but two of my 3 seateds are from ca.

I have been on my phone since I found this thread so haven't had a chance to read it all yet. Im interested to see how many taco / detectorists there are

Seated Liberties are rare in Oregon and Washington to find. Out of all of the people I've detected with and read about in forums have only produced 5 seated coins, and I found two of them. Not to say more haven't been found out here, just not publically noted as such.

I've heard that California "gold rush" areas might be the hot spots for Seated. The detecting forums seem to reflect this as well, as they are always finding them.

Is there a chance for a road trip to northern Nevada for a group hunt? We have Tacomas, and detectors and a desire to dig. And I really need to do some camping.

I know five guys that detect for both gold and coins that have found seated ones in some old mined areas. I myself have not. I haven't found any coins ever in the five years of consistent hunting. I have found watches, glasses, conchos and some gun parts in the mines. Also found over six pounds of lead balls in one area that was an old Town. Really was stoked to find seven 69 caliber balls in one area about six foot around. Later I had found the trigger assembly and hammer of a 69. Really cool day.

That sounds about right for seated coins found.

My buddy and I hit an old mining camp yesterday and he scratched up this 1863-S Half Dime. What a neat little coin!

I'm not familiar with the Fisher 1265-X, but I believe Fisher makes good stuff. What are you going to search for?

Could be... I actually dug a piece of the bit nearby, had no idea what it was so left it there.. will be going back for it, and hopefully the other boss.

I would never sell anything I find unless it was worth like $5k+ (as I wouldn't want the liability of keeping something like that safe from thieves). The history is worth more to me than the monetary value ever would be for stuff like this. It is fun to look at values of things though. Really makes you appreciate the fortune you had to have found them.
