Interesting. So i spent an extra hour on changing the "add-a-fuse location" from the under hood fuse box to the driver side fuse box because of concerns it would always have power and drain my battery. Would it not make you wake up to a dead battery?

Sorry. I meant constant power when the vehicle is on. There are several circuits in the under-hood fuse box you could tap for that. EFI1 is a common one people use.

Perfect. I was googling for a while for that info and couldn't find it. Great starting point.

That looks promising. Only potential issue I see, is that the anytime system only has composite video inputs and outputs (yellow plugs). Can anyone familiar with security cameras tell me what kind of cord that is (bnc, S-video (90's throwback)). Would just putting a converter in between work?

I installed a second ABC full kit on a friend's Tacoma last night. The install went incredibly smoothly. Took a total of an hour and 15 minutes with no unexpected hiccups.

Interestingly, his came with a completely different camera than mine. We didn't think to do a side-by-side comparison on quality. I do like that his camera was solid black with no markings. Mine has the brand name etched under the lens, which I don't prefer.

There are posts about it in this thread. One good argument against it that I hadn't considered was that this is a software based solution. So if Toyota pushes an update to the head unit, it could cause the camera to stop working. A hardware solution using a button and relay is more future-proof, potentially.

I do like the idea of using existing steering wheel controls, tho.

I bought the two different push switch setup (CH4x4 front and rear switches) and I wanna be able to switch each one on separately, so it sounds like I need a diode. Does anyone know specifically what diode? Or any schematics that include the diode?

Diodes are available on the site. That said, I think only one is used but I don't think you technically need it; you'll just have to push the Rear switch, then the Front switch, if memory serves. Somewhere in this thread are a few schematics and I'm pretty sure at least one of them makes use of a diode.

Got my full ABC kit installed and everything works great. I do have the reverse mirrored image. My camera does have the green looped wire. If I understand from reading this thread, all I need to do is snip the green wire and the image will right itself?

The camera should come with instructions on which wire to cut to flip the image. I just cut them both because I didn’t want the measurement lines on the front cam.

Thanks. I’ll go back and check. I didn’t see it before but admittedly placed the instructions aside pretty quickly as they didn’t appear useful.

I ended up having an issue with those green wire ones, and returned it as you have to orient the camera with the mounting rod horizontally, not vertically.

I snipped the green wire and it worked great. There were no instructions though that came with it. Mine is mounted vertically.

I got all of my stuff in yesterday so hopefully within the week I can install it. I ended up going with 2 switches for the front and rear camera so I will have to do some figuring out on how to install those and wire them up

Works flawlessly... the hype about potential software updates interfering with functionality are unfounded, just an imagination based concern. The harness isn’t going to change after install, and the mode button software assignment isn’t going to change (what purpose would Toyota have to make those adjustments)... no need to worry. Finally, let’s say the apocalypse comes and engineers do change HU assignments. The car solutions black box is firmware upgradable, and thus exists a possibility of recovery.

This unit is awesome, full PnP, easy to install, and requires NO extra buttons to worry about unmatched light color or where to place. Double tap the mode button on the steering wheel, and the front camera turns on... change gears from reverse to drive, and the front camera comes on... rear cam works exactly as stock, all automatic. When any camera is on, the up/down button on the left side of the steering wheel switches front/rear camera display... simple solution.

I’m getting ready to install mine. What hiccups did you have with the switch Pro? How did you wire the relay?

If anyone has a legit wiring diagram on how to wire this up with a switchpro, I'd appreciate it if you could attach a copy or PM me. I'm assuming that this is also going to take up 2 positions on the head unit, one for each camera. I'm confused as far as whether the diodes are necessary. I'm also assuming that the switchpro is used to control power to each camera and that power feed is what is triggering the relay which by default is in the rear camera position. Right?
