As the youngest member in this thread it's my responsibility to make everyone else feel old. (Even though I have the aching body of a 40 year old)

Flying these and using FM, HF, UHF & SATCOM for Comms corrected me on the folly of CB's.

    What haven’t I changed?
HAM license is good for 10 years. I can forget a lot of things in that time.

The real problem (I think) is that CB modulates the amplitude of the signal whereas HAM modulates the
    frequency.
Remember when FM radio came out and kicked the snot out of AM?

For sound quality, for distance thew AM stations still pounded it out there. The biggest deal for the legal user it the 4w CB compared to the 75w that we are allowed as a licensed user/abuser. The line is really blurred for the person who runs a quality CB with an amplifier (not legal), then it comes down to the network of repeaters.

I've never hear anyone over 50 miles using simplex 2m. While I've made contacts with the CB/ssb over oceans.

I just don't knock either, never know when one or the other might be better in getting emergency communications out.
