Custom steering wheel logo

I see, thanks! Leaning towards the smoothed one.

 

I go back and forth, side by side, smoothed looks better in my opinion, but the texture actually matches really well with the interior.

Keep in mind that textured one didn't pass my QC. it's just all I had for the photo.

 

.. so when one removes air bag and is left with steering wheel face plate and are at the last step to remove the original Toyota emblem.. what method does one use to remove emblem? Does the logo pull out cleanly leaving the 6 holes clear or does one need to drill to clean out?

 

I used a small pair of diagonal wireccutters to nip the melted ends off from inside. They're surprisingly pliable to pull out and cut and the holes are clean.

Once the emblem was removed I used a dremel to level the inside of the oval so the new badge sits flat. It doesnt sit flush but it is somewhat recessed.


I used clear silicone adhesive to attach, let cure for an hour or two then reinstalled.



Once fully set I cleaned up any extra glue that was visible.

 

Installed last night, really happy with it!

My biggest hesitation is the lack of video/picture handling the removal of the original toyota emblem. Any feedback you can provide would be greatly appreciated! (As well as any other helpful tidbits of info)

How was removing the stock Toyota emblem?

 

Anyone know if it's a similar process on 2nd gens? My steering wheel looks identical. So..

 

Thanks. Removing the toyo emblem was very easy. With Small Diagonal cutters you can cut off the melted ends. Then comes right off.

I'd also love to know how you guys are holding these on? Might help me fine tune the designs.

 

12-15 should be exactly the same. 05-11 works with some grinding

 

I ended up using gorilla crazy glue to bond the 6 pegs to the emblem then used a lighter to melt the pegs on the opposite side to the steering cover, just like oem.

 

Got mine in the mail yesterday. Just wondering what the strip is for?
