Mat, I for one sincerely appreciate your efforts and help. I don’t fault you for turning to where the business is in terms of the 3.5L. I surely wouldn’t expect you to compete with a large industry like HPTuner. I have your handheld tuner and your tunes. I paid for the TRD SC tune as well. The average person will realize very quickly after diving into this the skill and experience both that goes into making a “tune” like you do with OV. They don’t appreciate that you can’t just customize everything for everybody. This tool will allow a small niche crowd the ability to do much of this on their own now and any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Agreed. I’ve installed launch control systems In Previous cars which involved splicing into abs and injectors. Then came trying to tune it. Needed to be a rocket scientist to figure it out, and this wasn’t even close to a full ecu tune. It’s way more involved than people think. Thanks in part to some really smart people on the forums who make it LOOK easy.

I feel like this thread has been really positive and has stayed mostly on topic, with @JustDSM spearheading the efforts. Not much in the way of trash talk; just stoke that there's a tuning option for the 1GR-FE from a long-standing and reputable company.

So, although it counts for little, it's my vote we keep this thread on-topic. Plenty of other threads out there that told me my 2nd gen trucks were not the priority.

I now understand why everyone wants a Pedal Commander..

Look at the Accelerator Pedal vs Throttle Opening table..

I've tried explaining that sooooo many times in the past. :plane: over people's heads or not the right time, I suppose.
    With examples from my Haltech.

It becomes very responsive when it matches.

I honestly feel this is more representative of a taco vs a 4runner w/the 1GR. Even before I tuned my 4runner I never had a throttle response issue. Taco is a pita. Throttle hesitation is repeatable, most often when I'm backing outta my driveway with the wheel turned and give it say 20-25% throttle to pull away. Takes a while for it to respond.

I'd like to compare these tables on my 2014 Tacoma vs. my wife's 2006. The new truck is noticabley more sluggish off the line, even before the bigger tires.

Hopefully we can get connected to an earlier truck and can compare. I have calibrations for 2015 6spd, 2014 auto, and a 2011 auto currently. All non-TRD SC calibrations.

I’ll verify they’re all the same in the morning. I’m confident they are but I’ll confirm.

Is the difference with the pedal commander pretty noticeable still if you have a manual trans? I didnt think it would but after seeing that graph above im guessing it helps

I’ve not tested a revised throttle mapping yet, but the throttle body is very lazy relative to the pedal until you’re really deep into the pedals stroke. I suspect the difference will be rather profound in the manual trucks.

How a pedal commander feels? Couldn’t say.

I'd trade my pedal commander for a throttle cable any day... (it does help a bit though)

    1:1 would be nice.

Curious how much the MPVI2 can read with the UCON in the middle. I know my Mongoose and Autel can only intermittently communicate with Toyota protocol and when they do communicate, only some of the PIDs are there.

UCON likes to cock block. Probably have to pull the UCON to get reliable communication.

PS: my MPVI2 is supposed to be here tomorrow, too. This weekend, it’s play time!

I had. Just to see what it was like. I put a slight dip, in the lowest rpms. For slow moving scenarios. Such as parking garages and lots. Otherwise there would be a lot of jerky response.

Just past there, it is all 1:1.
