95-97 springs are 3" shorter than 98-04. 98-04 may have some tiny spring rate differences between them but for all intents and purposes they will work the same if interchanged, just make sure you put the driver's side and passenger's sides on right or you'll lean

 

Okay so just snuck by the shop during work and found my power steering leak. Its leaking from the shaft that the pulley connects to is this a easy fix or do I need to replace the pump?

 

I have yet to see traction boards perform well in the snow. They usually just ended up just getting kicked out if your wet snowy tire even grips them.



Am I the only one that uses a hi-lift to level my truck?

 

They sell a rebuild kit for the pump, seals should be included in that. It's all bolt together type stuff nothing super complicated.

I found it pretty easy to take apart. If you can find a new seal I don't see any reason why you couldn't fix it. In the fsm there are specs for the pump fins you may want to check. Mine were all good with 250k miles on them.

 

Found a used on online for $64. not to shabby.

 

yeah I figured they'd be iffy in snow at best, I did try using a friend's traction boards in the snow once and it didn't work well at all. I suspect I'll mostly only need them in recovery circumstances when I'm in sand, or the off chance I get stuck in mud even though I avoid mud like the plague.

You use the hi-lift to level the truck overnight while you're sleeping in the RTT? I'd be afraid it would drop and scare the ever living shit out of me haha.

I've never had my hi-lift drop on me but I have seen a friend's drop his truck once when we were using it to change out a spare, luckily it happened almost right away so no one was around it. He admitted he rarely ever oiled it though, I keep mine oiled every time I use it.

 

I've never had an issue with one. As long as the pin is all the way in its not going to randomly drop. If it does the Kings will gently let me down lol.

Were you able to reuse the retainer clips or do I need to get those too? If so where did you get those ?

 

Wheelers called me and recommended I get those too so I did, but the ones they send aren't the same kind of snap rings that were on my Kings (didn't have the little holes on the ends to use the snap ring pliers with) so I just ended up reusing my original ones. They were still fine just dirty.

 

Btw I fought with my drivers side coilover in a bench vise for an hour trying to press the bearing out and the new one in, before I realized I could just knock it out by putting a med size socket on the face of the bearing and tapping it out with a hammer. Got the new ones in that way too and it's a lot easier than trying to hold the coilover in the vise while pressing the bearing out with a socket.

 

Then you're good you don't need more shims

 

Oem pads? If not, then you likely dont need shims.

I just figured Oem pads would say Toyota or something, red and white box.
