BUYER BEWARE: 3rd Gen Plug-N-Play Tailgate Bolt-N-Lock & Tailgate Bolt-N-Open

Some people bend it and then mount the Actuator on it rather than directly to the top of the tailgate so it sits lower.

I didn't want to wait and so I just started working on it and finished it in about 2 hours. I cut the rod a tiny bit too short but I was still able to make it work. I followed my zip ties from the bed lights I installed a few weeks ago and everything is working perfectly now. Thank you for making this kit!

So the Katie mod is working GREAT!

Showed it off at work and seems like everybody that has Taco's did not realize you could actually LOCK your tailgate via the remote!

No more crappy aluminum key!

The “ring method” is useful to avoid any drilling of plastic and bending of the rod.



The rod naturally achieves the proper angle similar to a spoke attached to a hub on a crossed-spoked bicycle wheel.

A 1/4” 10-12 heavy duty ring fits perfectly. It is lightly crimped to the rod, soldered; then slightly bent up to match the rod angle and placed under the lock connector.

The soldering of the plane of the ring parallel with the plane of the “spoke” bend is key. Also, through-bolting the actuator (with 6/32” machine screws) allows for easy removal/replacement of the actuator when cutting and soldering.

I bought a grounding lug today at Home Depot to do mine when I get my kit.

 

make sure the sire of the ring terminal and the grounding lug does not allow for the side to hit on the silver lock on the right......the main reason i did not use the ring terminal is that the ring right side would hit it and not fully extend the black part that some drill a hole in......for me, it may have been the position of the actuator, but my set up using the black plastic part with hole drilled allows for 100% extension of the rod with no side stress or pressure

 

Thanks for the info. I’m gonna check it out once I get my kit. Only cost me a couple dollars. I can always just go with the other setup and drill the plastic.
If it works, I’ll post it up.

Any solution to soften the clunk noise each time the actuator engages? I was thinking a layer of sound baffle material or rubber washers. Suggestions?

Also huge shout out to @KTJO 4x4 for an awesome harness! Install was a breeze only time invested really was routing wiring to under passenger door.
