I'm rebuilding a salvage vehicle and just recently finally got it started. When I bought the truck the intake manifold and valve cover were broken with a possibility of intake manifold pieces being sucked into the cylinder.

The knock is coming from the farthest from the front passenger side cylinder area. Sounds like a lifter ticking, the video I'm linking amplifies it..

    Any guesses?

I removed the valve vcover to inspect a bit. I attached a photo with an arrow pointing to a piece isk what it is, but it moves back and forth, is it supposed to move?

The speed of that noise sounds like something having to do with the valve train. Check to make sure none of that valve cover material got lodged in a valve spring. Just a guess though....

Is that piece that moves, just attached to the cam encoder? IDK why but those valve lobes looked scored too. Could just be my imagination though.

Mine sounds like that when I remove those foam pieces around the valve cover...

I wonder if that's just the normal engine tick these engines have but more pronounced since your engine is a bit more exposed currently.
Also that may have to do with the variable valve timing to switch between Otto cycle and Atkins cycle but not all to sure. Never torn apart a newer engine with anything of the sorts

I was thinking the same thing. The cadence sounds about right, just louder.

    Well that was helpful...

Nothing for scoring. On the other side of that piece is something with hoses coming out of it..

It does sound exactly like many other videos posted of a famous "Taco Tick"...
