I'm going to have to do front brakes soon so I figure it's the perfect time to do the big brake upgrade. Now to decide on what parts to get...

I found this kit with a quick google search: https://www.lceperformance.com/Front-Big-Brake-Upgrade-Kit-Tacoma-1995-2004-6-Lug-p/1055203.htm

It looks like it has everything but I'm not sure slotted/drilled rotors are worth it and bet if I do more hunting I can find a better parts and or a better price. I don't need anything fancy but I'm not afraid to get the better/pricier parts if they're worth it. Any words of wisdom for those that have already the Big Brake Upgrade?

Yes I use them when I ship heavy or bulky items to the other seaboard. Grayhound Bus Shipping is cheapest for local states.

Shipnex is a broker for FedEx. You get a FedEx label.

A buddy I have did NAPA parts on his tundra and was happy with them.

I'm reading through these right now: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-improve-braking.598258/#post-20079194

I think my current brakes work well enough but I'd like them to do a little better and I'm doing new pads, rotors and calipers so I might as well upgrade.

    Wouldn't do it.

Their kit is for 13gl which is the 199mm version. You want the larger 13wl.

Get Napa ones. Nice quality remans.

Hmm trying to figure out which one I am...lol

Go "OEM," it's worth it. There are so many people who have one issue or another when they go non-OEM. i put "OEM" in quotes b/c the Napa calipers aren't OEM, but they are the highest quality you can get and I'd venture that they are equivalent to OEM, unlike aftermarket rotors and pads.

Write-up of my install here (and all the parts you need):
New-to-me Tires and a Tundra Brake Upgrade
A great comparison of OEM to non-OEM (calipers, pads, etc.) here:
Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors (archive)

That comparison of OEM vs. not OEM above is what made me go with OEM rotors and pads. If you use beveled pads, you're basically negating any benefit of the bigger brakes, b/c your braking surface area is nearly the same as OEM Tacoma.

For me, I'd rather pay a bit more and get the best possible result...but of course, my truck is heavier :( so there's that.

My truck isn't very heavy yet but It will get heavier... OEM is always a good way to go with Toyota, at least in my experience... Thanks for the detail!

Any reason to get slotted or drilled rotors? Most of the guys around here that go mudding avoid them because rocks and other crud can get caught in them.

    No need for fancy rotors.

Interesting, because in the past Napa has used chamfered edges. Wonder if that's changed generally now, or if it's hit and miss. At any rate, will be a good test to see how long / what issues we each see, given the (essentially) same time of installation.

I’ve learned to never buy aftermarket drums. They’re almost always out of round and I have to cut them. Oem drums is all I’ll buy.

Rotors I only buy oem or ebc. Same for pads

I’d say I have an extra you could have. But uh. The reason I have it is because it just redlines every time you turn the car on.
