That is true, I did not use anti-seize.

Changing your own plugs is easy and even fun. Nice sense of accomplishment if you don't get to turn wrench very often.

I was quoted under $300 to do my truck which has the 4.0 V6 for the 90,000 mile service which includes oil change, filter, tire rotation, and plugs.

Wonder how many times the dealers been punched in the head making those kind of ridiculous estimates.
Was it a misprint & he meant $70.00?

X2 - I did my 2006 2.7L 3 years ago for the first time and did have a few newbie problems. 1. My socket was getting stuck while trying to pull out the spark plug and if it wasn't for the Harbor Freight long needle nose pliers I might have had to reinstall them, because I doubt the magnet I had would have been strong enough. 2. My plan was not to use any anti-seize till I tried to install the first spark plug, which was so dry I couldn't tell if I was cross threading them, so I used it on all the plugs.

My owners manual says 12 years or 120K miles, but did them a little early at 10 years with only 50K miles, not feeling comfortable leaving them in the full 12 years.

Are you sure its 700 for just spark plugs? Is there anything else included in that estimate?

This is a simple job as everyone said. Buy the plugs online- Rock Auto is much cheaper than the local stores; even with shipping I still think I saved $20. I bought NGKs for mine and the PN has slightly changed vs what it says in the owner's manual for a 2009, so keep that in mind. The Rock Auto listing was correct as I also checked with NGKs website. I changed mine at around 100k as I've had plugs on other vehicles which were very difficult to remove since they stay in for so long now and tend to seize up. And these were difficult to remove - I used some Kroil and went back and forth tightening and loosening to free them up. I used a light coating of nickel anti-seize on the threads of the replacements as I always do. Never had any issues with this despite what plug mfgs say- and this is why the OE ones are often so difficult to remove.

The first time I changed the plugs on my wifes corolla it took me about 2 hours. But that includes the time it took me to drive to the store and buy the plugs and try to find a non worn out plug socket in my father in laws tool box lol. Also I work at a CAT dealership and our labor rate is about $120/hr in California. $700 is like 6 hours of labor. Ridiculous.

$700 just for spark plugs. Calling BS. They probably quoted for a schedule B or something.

Yep - see the post just above yours - #32 - 4 cyl calls for 1st plug change at 120K miles.

I use a piece of old air hose or tubing to rethread the new plugs in instead of trying to use the spark plug socket, you get a better feel when rethreading the new plugs as far as the possibility of cross threading. if the threads feel dry when rethreading it wont hurt to spray the threads with a little wd40 to help the process along. also use black electrical tape to tape the socket to the socket extension so it doesn't get knocked off when you are pulling out the plugs.

Makes sense... I mean $50.00 for each these unobtanium plugs and 5 hours to install them @ $100.00 per hour....AND they'll tell you they're hooking you up by scrubbing the disposal fees....

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
So glad to be self sufficient in regards to auto repairs. No wonder most of the youngins don't even want to own a car. Very thankful to my Pops for showing me (and teaching me how) to work on my own stuff.
