Its kind of funny cause I have an RTT and also a teardrop trailer (nucamp T@G). Both the gf and I are more and more just using the teardrop. Its so nice being able to have it loaded all the time minus food and clothes. Makes last minute adventures quick and easy to go on (no more grabbing stoves, sleeping bags, blankets, ect). Its also nice being able to put the dog inside and take off for a bit.

The RTT really hasnt big of a hinderance as one would think. It really only takes 5 minutes (or less) to set up and put away. Which compared to other options it isnt really that much longer to put away/take out.

We are going to be taking our T@G on our trip this summer.

    This was my thought exactly.

I dont want a rtt anchoring my truck at a campsite, nor do I want to be hauling a trailer. Here is what I landed on. Works great for us.

This is our thought process as well. Plus once in a blue moon we find ourselves miscalculating and arriving really late or not even making it as far as we thought we would and it will be extra nice to pull over and hop out of the truck and right into the teardrop.

A summary of road trips since owning a taco:

2017 - chased the solar eclipse. Got some nice photos. Great Smokies sucked ass during this time; there were more people than trees. I managed to stay happily away from crowds for the remainder of the trip.
    google 1.jpg

2018 - Got a girlfriend. Camp trips now need multiple interests in mind. A few last minute reroutes due to fires. Aspen on July 4th - sucked ass. Santa Fe - surprisingly fun. Check out Meow Wolf, but go early in the morning.
    google2.jpg

2019- pending next month. West coast friends asked that we come visit them this year. The way out is straight driving with a few minor stops in white sands and saguaro, the return loop will have some fun spots, including 2 nights not camping in vegas.

Hey man, a fast word of caution of the Africa Twin... try changing the rear tire with roadside tools before you go to Alaska.. it's damn near impossible to break that bead on the side of the road. Look into a tubliss conversion or you might be hating life somewhere around Coldfoot. I actually sold my AT - never really took a liking to it - and one of the reasons was I literally could not break the bead on a rear flat and had a pleasant hike down a mountain as a result. That big ass rear tire ain't a dirt bike tire.

Powered by one tailgate mounted CFM56–7 engine. The engine is a dual–rotor, axial–flow turbofan engine capable of producing 27,000lbs of thrust. Why yes, my tailgate is slightly bowed in.

Good to know, thanks for the heads up, put a Motoz Tractionator on the back, stupid beefy, took to shop to have it machine mounted, have not had the honor of a trail repair yet, hope to avoid.

What kind of milage are you getting with a pop up? Or how many miles per tank?

Average is ~15 mpg @ 70-75 mph. So its a three to four mpg penalty for towing the popup with a wet weight between 3000-3200 pounds. I try to go 250 miles between tanks; mainly because I prefer to refuel at 1/4 tank when road tripping.

    Holy. Crap.

How accurate is your map there? Id be interested in what parts of Maine you passed through, as well as the NB & Quebec portion. I'd like to do a trip through that area at some point, maybe down into Nova Scotia too.

It's accurate for just this one long trip, we've been many other places in the states and Canada, but thought it only fair to make a map of just this consecutive trip.

We loved the northeast, in Maine we hit Bar Harbor, Portland, Mt. Katahdin. Be sure to stop at Maine Beer Company, they're producing some of the best beers up there, and 1% of their profits go to charity, which is pretty cool. Quebec is super solid, tons of fun places up there, we spent some time fixing up a cabin in Wentworth Nord, which is about 1.5hrs NW of Montreal, which, Montreal is a really rad town to go out in. Gaspe Peninsula is pretty wild too, waay out there east. We could see whales frolicking in the water from shore, it was all around Roche Perce, which has a fun little district to walk around. As soon as you head into Canada, the breweries dive in quality I have to say. Tough to compete with the heat that Vermont, Maine & New Hampshire have going. I'd easily say Vermont beer is better than Colorado beer, and I'm from Colorado. -ends beer rant- While you're up in the northeast, some incredible hiking can be found in the Forillon National Park. If you head a bit south, you will find the Bonaventure River, where we kayaked 11 miles of pure bright blue gorgeous water! When you get closer to your trip, I can help a bit more with recommendations if you'd like!

    Cheers

If you find yourself in just north of St. Augustine FL, you got to stop by Caps on the Water for a meal/drinks. It’s on the Intercoastal Waterway off Route 1 (I think). Awesome place, beautiful.

That’s exactly I’m im thinking. The bed design makes it perfect to setup. I just need to find a cap. Not trying to pay up the ass for a new one. Been sifting through Craigslist and Facebook market for moths looking for a good deal.

Not sure how much I can contribute, but the longest I can go is about 3 hours one way on the Big Island, Hawaii.
I'm usually packing some gear, so I've been gearing up to do a transmission cooler upgrade to keep my temps down.

This was last summer's trip. My wife has family out in MN, so the goal was to visit them, by way of Canada. Screenshot 2019-04-03 at 10.10.19 PM.jpg
So that was really an amazing trip. NY Finger lakes is beautiful country. Niagara Falls, Kayaked the Serpent River out onto Lake Huron. Neys Provincial Park, camping overlooking the water was great. There's an amethyst mine up in that area which was really cool. The trip back was pretty much a straight shot but it was OK.

Several years ago we did this one, I left the campgrounds out, but Michigan had a really good one. We took the ferry across to Isle Royal NP. Came back through Canada and Niagara Falls, near Buffalo NY, but I forgot to put that in this route. Screenshot 2019-04-03 at 10.19.03 PM.jpg . That was amazing.

It was a dream we worked towards for a few years & I’m having serious wanderlust issues now we’re renting a place and have full time jobs.. it’s very hard to go back to “normal life” :bananadead:

Ps if you’re ever near Nashville, holler!

I'm really digging this thread, with everyone putting up their routes/maps of where they've taken their Tacomas. Giving me some ideas
