For what it's worth, its been 8 months since I noticed this on my shock and started this thread and I've had no issues with leaking. The shocks have held up great, and I've beat the crap out them (did the Mojave Road trip for 3 days attempting to keep up with the other guys running Kings and somehow I miraculously didn't blow a shock)...I don't think the dust shield is all that critical. Hopefully I'm not wrong but my experience thus far says it isn't that important.

Good to know. I'll update if mine start leaking.

yeah I never really dealt with it, I just let it be but it never caused any issues. I don't think it was a critical part of the shock, probably just there to help protect the shaft front getting dirty and dinged up over time. Anyway I ditched my 5100s about a year and a half ago for Kings and haven't looked back lol. But they did hold up well for me the year or so I had them on, I ran them pretty hard.

I'm still rolling my rear 5100s, it's been ~7 years now. First 5 or 6 were mainly street with weekend warrior type offroading. Now that it's my play truck, I blew my cash on the Kings up front a year or so ago so the 5100s will have to stay for a bit longer.

It's actually not as bad as you might think with the mismatched shocks.

Maybe I should show my wife that video so I can get some matched Kings sooner than anticipated...
