Pretty exhaustive list of peated scotches, there. Not much to add, but I'll try ;). I'll add Compass Box Peat Monster to the list (because it wouldn't be a bvbull200 scotch recommendation without Compass Box mentioned somewhere ). That's for readily available. If you can find a Compass Box No Name, it's even peatier, yet.

Other than that, between what you recommend and @Jibbs heading down the Ardbeg rabbit hole, the peat ought to be covered for a while.

Agreed. Solid list as far as I can tell. It's good to have a list like that top of mind so that if you come across a bar and what to try something new, you have some ideas.

With all due respect, what you "want" him to do is of little relevance. @Jibbs can take any or all of the whiskies on that list, look in to them, then decide for himself where his money is best spent. Why would he look like a fool if a bottle of whiskey cost $200? Seem presumptuous. Even if he doesn't want to spend that on a bottle (though it sounds like he's both willing and able), at least knowing it comes with a recommendation might be enough to try a pour at a bar sometime. That's one way to "make sure you like it" without buying the bottle.

Besides, it can be hit or miss on providing pricing due to regional differences. That Lagavulin 16 that you mentioned being $110 is only around $80-85 for me. Octomore is all sub-$200 and as low as $160 depending on which edition.

And no reason to think that someone who'd drop $150+ on a bottle without trying it wouldn't come talk whiskey here. Lots of folks in this thread sharing a common interest in whiskey. At the risk of lacking modesty, I bought a Booker's 30th without trying it ($200 retail). I bought a Booker's Rye without trying it, too (secondary prices ). Here I am talking whiskey on TW.

Stick around. I appreciate your recommendations and feedback on stuff you've tried. Your suggestions for someone looking for peat seemed spot on to me. Besides, it's not like you'd get a commission for each bottle sold .

Check out Twin Liquors in the Austin area (numerous locations). Most I've been to have had a good selection of stuff. Not promising anything terribly rare, but worth a stop in. Their shtick is to offer discounts when you buy two of the same bottle. In some cases, the savings are really good. Might find a go-to of yours that is worth doubling up on at a good price.

Keep working your way along the Ardbeg line. Their profile is unmistakable, but each bottle has its own uniqueness to it.

I have a little of their Corryvreckan left and about 3/4ths a bottle of Grooves. I had a buddy bring over a bottle of the Drum Committee Release. That was a real treat. I dig peaty scotches myself, so post up what stuff you try that you like.

You like bookers like I like glendronach. I would 100% dump 200+ on any glendronach bottle without trying and take the risk.

Im using "what I dont want" facetiously , obviously what I want doesnt matter, more info doesnt hurt in helping someone knowing what they are looking for.

If he doesnt want to stick around well whatever, silly, to get his feelings hurt so quickly or whatever.
Pricing can vary wildly of course, but generally knowing what stuff runs in areas is good to know.

I havent read the entire thread but hopefully we can get some trading and stuff going on here, which is usually why I reference price so much.

I can get stagg jr ALL DAY, its 99$ dollars here though..shipping is roughly 18.

Booker's Rye is the *only* rye they've ever made, so I can't very well rely on past batches to shape that decision . How about $300 on Compass Box Circus, then (mind you their scotch varies a ton from expression to expression)? Neither here nor there, I suppose. ;)

As for @Ensemble88 , I assure you the dude's feelings aren't hurt. The two of us have conversed plenty in this thread and nothing suggests that's his style. He's a good dude to have in the whiskey discussion.

As for trading - I certainly hope that doesn't become what this thread is about. I'm in plenty of markets for buying/selling/trading whiskey. They serve their purpose, but that purpose rarely involves the discussion of actually experiencing the spirit. Much more fun popping in this thread to see what everyone is sipping on or looking at adding to the cabinet than to wade through a bunch of for sale posts.

Those trading guys always seem to be wanting to uptrade and resell. Not interested in that, more in just helping someone get their hands on something
they have been looking for and want to actually drink it. ie the laphroaig cs, if he doesnt find it, ill send it out no problem.

But yes I do enjoy the hopping and seeing what everyone is drinking which those other websites LACK. Huge inventory posts and nothing else, BORING.

im just joking about the hurt feelings, im sure hes not going anywhere, lol just light poking.

Im not trying to one up you on the spent money, just agreeing with you. I enjoy glendronachs profile, I will blindly spend on their bottles because I trust what Im getting.

A fun comparison for Ardbeg is Trader Joe's Islay Finlaggen. Rumor has it, it's Ardbeg 10 behind the label. Only $20-30 too. Might be fun to pick one up and try it against your Ardbeg and see if you can pick out any differences ;).

    @bvbull200
I just added the very first person to my ignore list. Took me 10 months but hey, maybe it's the start of something great lol. so no worries.

Not one-upping, just stating another that was $150+ that was bought without trying first. I know full well that one-upsmanship doesn't get you anywhere in this hobby and, frankly, it comes across as the antithesis of why I make it my spirit of choice. Just like there is always a faster car or more capable truck, there is always a bigger collection.

A close friend that I've made through whiskey - the guy who brought the Drum over - has the second largest in the state of Texas (bars/organizations included). He's about the only one I know that could get away with it .

He's working on a YouTube channel now. The plan is to do a whiskey/BBQ mashup episode with yours truly being the special guest ;).
