Not on a good E rated tire. People run sub 20 on harder trails all the time. Been doing 12-15 on mine almost every weekend for years and never had something negative result from it. Need a tire with strong sidewalls if you intend to run under 20 psi. If you're doing it on a C rated tire or god forbid a P rated one then yeah, that's asking for trouble.

Just got off the hwy onto the on ramp.
After it went flat I had to drive another 50 ft before I could find someplace safe.
I was in the middle of rush he traffic.

So the rim cut a majority of the already compromised sidewall.

One more benefit I’ll add is it makes it harder to puncture a tire while aired down. Think of a balloon and a pointy stick. A fully inflated balloon will be a lot easier to puncture than a balloon only half filled with air.

Where did you hear this? For highway speeds on pavement yeah, but we're talking off road here. Even with a C/P rated tire overheating isn't your issue, but sidewall collapse because they aren't stiff enough to hold the weight at that low of a pressure.

15-18 psi on conventional stock rims is extremely common. With beadlocks you can run under 10psi.

For sure we're talking off road not highway. Air down and feel the advantage.
