My personal opinion is that Lew's is the best value out there in baitcasters. Not the best, and not the cheapest, but for the money very hard to beat. Perfect for a weekend warrior like me that gets out 12-15 times a year. Nice pickups!

I found a new spot in a park not far from the house. Its a relatively small pond and seems to be shallow throughout. The water is very clear and full of bottom grass. I could see the bass on beds but could get them to react to anything. They hardly moved when i drug a jig with a crawfish over their bodies and right in front of their face. I dont know if they are really pressured and are used to it or whats going on. Im gonna go back tomorrow since its supposed to be in the 80s here and try again. Anyone got any ideas on what to use to get them to react while on their beds?

I have the same Veritas rod in both spinning and casting. One of the best rods for the money IMO. sensitive for finesse fishing (spinning rod) and P-E-R-F-E-C-T for crankbaits/jerkbaits (casting rod). Super strong rods too. Good choice!

I havent even put line on the reel yet. Its too heavy for pond fishing around here so it will only be used out on the boat for my bigger baits. Havent gotten out on the boat cause my FIL went fishing in florida for a week so im stuck pond fishing until he gets back.

X2 on that rod. I've had mine for at least 4 years now. One for spinning, another with a curado on it. They both are fantastic. The only other rod I'm more fond of is my st croix

Waiting for a deal on a St Croix rod to show up. Probably won’t ever happen, but keeping my eyes peeled. Would like to get one for my river smallmouth fishing. Such nice rods.

I also have med-hvy Veritas thats two piece. Its not even a year old and the end with the handle has turned almost brown but the end with the tip is still bright white. Still works great and is my favorite overall rod but just looks retarded being two different colors. My favorite specialty rod is my Enigma Phenom that i used for deep diving cranks only.

Got a medium fast for bombing crank baits with a winching reel. Some of the most fun I've had ripping smallies out of shelves haha

There are a few ways to fix that usually. Over the years, I've used colored/textured tape and markers, but that's just because I'm cheap and cant stand discolored things. Otherwise, I find a good friend/family member who needs a gift and I end up buying a new one. Lol
Dang, that's making me excited for the spring bite to come around (and the water levels to drop). There are some decent smallie waters around me now, but this year I'm making it a priority to go out and try different areas outside of my state. Tooooo many good spots out there that don't have a million people hitting the same water every weekend.

Ive seen a couple people mention "water levels drop". Whats that mean exactly? I dont think that happens here unless we have severe drought which isnt uncommon.

Yeah that's a great question. Here where I am (and in many other places around the country, including the Midwest) when it rains a TON at once, the water levels rise drastically, which usually washes out good fish holes and creates a total chocolate-milk tsunami of current that makes the fishing TOUGH. Not impossible of course to hook something, but usually creates a ton of extra work with little reward. For someone like me, that only bank fishes, it makes it even more tough to walk the water shorelines and try to catch something.

Crazy you guys still have ice. I was only able to get out and ice fish in the Sierra Nevada mountains once this winter and was able to fly home to Iowa for a week in January to ice fish. When we ice fished in Iowa, half the lake was open, which is super crazy to think. In my years of ice fishing northern Iowa, never have seen open water in the middle of January.

Ahhh that makes sense. I didnt know if it had something to do with the ice melting on the lakes. Ours dont freeze here. Most of our lakes are constant level due to all the big nice houses around them so they dont flood. And the ones that arent constant level rarely get out of their banks cause they are always low.

Yeah out here in Northern California, we don't get rain all year until like mid-winter. Then we usually get a week or two of rain all at once which totally blows out our rivers and lakes. Floods everything. Lol. Also yeah, come spring time (like we are in now) that snow melt will continue to keep our waters up for awhile. We got record amounts of snow this year, so I expect high waters for the next couple of months honestly... which kinda sucks for the fishing dreams.

Yep. We lost some ice pretty quick. But even up until last week we had 16" of ice up north. I was out on 22" for most of the winter

We has a small stock tank freeze enough to walk on when i was a kid once. But never a frozen lake around here and even if we did i wouldnt ice fish. I hate the cold.
