I'm not gonna lie. My tacoma stays on the road 99.9% of the time... Which has me thinking about things like fuel economy, low rolling resistance, etc.

What would you say is an ideal tire for the taco, focusing on fire economy and general all season use (new England)

As @Clearwater Bill will tell you, Michelin Defender LTX M/S are the tires you’re looking for

The stock tires. If there was a better performer for MPG they would have used them.

Definitely possible. Stockers are soft. OP asked about MPG. Kinda the old pick two. Cheap, MPG, long life.

That I don’t believe. The stock Goodyear’s that came on my Pro were trash. Terrible traction on wet roads and anything off road. I should have upgraded right away.

Goodyear has a stellar sales team if you ask me.....

Ones on my 16 made it to nearly 50k. Ones on my 17 barely made 20k before I destroyed them.

I’ve got just shy of 50k on my falkens and they are still going strong

No way . They put the tire on that they get the best package deal on . Has nothing to do with MPG .

Again strictly talking MPGs which is was OP was asking. If Toyota could have swapped tires and got an EPA estimate that's 2mpg higher they most certainly would have.

I don't doubt that factor either. It is more likely that comparing all similar tires had little to no change in MPGs. The higher the number on the sticker, the more trucks they sell.

Get new condition Tacoma OEM Wrangler takeoffs from here or CL, plenty of TWers and other new owners can’t stand waiting to get a good price and sell them for way too cheap in their hurried rush to get better offroad tires instead :anonymous:, and their loss is your gain for an otherwise great street tire!

I bought a set of Defender and I wasn't overly happy with them.. I bought them for the road..

The only advantage they really have is they are good in wet weather.. Other than that, they are just a mediocre tire..

I think what was eating me the whole time is I looked at them before instale and the sidewall is ridiculously thin... the stock All Terrain Adventures have triple the sidewall thickness..

Honestly, the Stock Goodyears are pretty good until just over half.. Then they don't work as well... Some people say they are garbage, they aren't.. I've had lots of tires..

If your looking for a tough tire for highway but still want some good tread...

The Firestone Transforce A/T or A/T2... Unfortunately it doesn't come in many sizes...

It does come in LT245/75R16.. Which is stock for most models and does work on all others..

I've had about 5 sets of these on my GM's... Tough ass tire... Super sidewall and lightweight for an LT

They balance with no weights hardly...

    17/32's of tread as well...

Here is the A/T2.... The A/T is the older model... It's more commercial looking..

I'm basing what I say off experience... These tires are awesome...

    Snow and all...

When my duratracs wear off, This is what I'm going too..

Love the Duratracs, but they are overkill for my needs, my offroading is moderate... Light mud and soily trail to my camp..

My bald tired XJ had no problems...

Till the gas tank fell out...lol

The other beautiful thing about the Transforce A/T's... They don't spit stones...... AT ALL.

    I read the post...

This is a good tire for what the OP wants...

They weigh 41lbs versus the 37 stockers...

Great rolling resistance and tougher than nails..
