I just reached 70K Miles...what should i do?

What are standard maintenance things todo at 70K miles?

- my brakes are original..thinking it might be time to replace?
- Transmission fluid replace (haven't done this yet)?

What else?

 

Just look in the manual and do the 60,000 scheduled maintence. You may not need brakes, just inspect them and see how they look.

 

I assume you mean besides the normal maintenance items like lube u-joints, oil and filters and spark plugs?

New transmission fluid is definitely good as well as differential oil.

Some people would replace all belts and hoses about now.

Even if you don't need brakes it's a really good idea to flush.

Other'n that: drive it till something breaks. You could run yourself ragged doing lots of crazy things telling yourself you're 'pro-active', but ultimately being in tune with the noises and behaviour of your vehicle is a lot better, and cheaper, than trying to replace things when they don't need it.

 

Toyota changed the transmission fluid change to 60k btw.

Otherwise just follow the manual's schedule and i should be fine, presuming you have to this point. If not... do everything that was missed. I'd also crawl under and check for surface rust spots and stuff to sand off and paint. Sometimes just crawling around under and looking at stuff is the best.

As for the brakes... inspect the pads and wear. If it needs it, change them... if they're still good... they're still good. How long they last is dependent on driving style, not millage.
