You know I totally agree. I keep saying this reminds me of politics because it does!!
You have the "media", "Instagram and Tacomaworld" spewing RTT and Overland content as headlines. This is similar with different news channel that portray certain groups of people as X. So you get so wrapped up into thinking "these people are like this" and you are constantly reminded of this "hype". So yes, everyone including myself have been saturated by this making it very difficult to not see the "stereotype". Just have to remember, just like in any group, there is a small percent that is different. Might not be the majority, but a small amount.

    lol!

Yup. I have two really nice tents I use strictly for backpacking since they are fragile and I don't want to compromise their life. One time I grabbed an old "family coleman tent" from the back of the garage so my buddies and I could all camp out in one tent. WOW, terrible. The thing crushed us by the wind. It just swayed one way and just constantly squished us. Too funny.

Well there you go! You like to camp during mild climate with children. That's your goal. RTT probably isn't the best idea.Good choice for your situation for quality price and use.

You guys are out to lunch! Too funny ! you don't think dumbasses use ground tents, sleep in the back of their truck?
To generalize and say that it is RTT users wrecking camp sites is completely false news.
There are morons using every type of camping equipment, whether its ground tents or canopy's or hammocks.

Exactly what I meant by political. False news. It's easy to be portraid such an image when most things you see online are about "overlanders doing this badly etc".

I like ours but I would not like it if it was on the truck. Having it on a trailer makes it alot more convenient

Out of curiosity, for your situation, why would you say that the RTT on a trailer is better than planting a family tent on the ground? This isn't a troll post, curious.

“Be prepared” is all I gotta say. Most state parks here are booked a few months out. It’s luck of the draw when reserving a campsite and getting good weather.

    Good luck out there

Oh I meant better than leaving it on the truck. Ground tent is easier. The whole your higher up from bears is bullshit. It's a novelty item and I like it. A family ground tent camping will have just as much if not more fun. Your kids can tell stories of how it wasn't staked in and blew away, or how the rod smacked and hit your daughter in the face.

No, dude. Like literally every truck with an RTT being driven by a dude in skinny jeans, slip-on Vans and aviator sunglasses hailing from Orange County are the guys tearing up all the trails and making fire pits with rocks on park land. There is no exception. They are the only ones

Nothing wrong with that. Novelty item and you like it. I agree on novelty. I'd never tow a trailer around but like I said, everyone has their preference.

    RTT = Rube Goldberg.

Some people love to make shit way more complex (/expensive) than it needs to be.

That's what makes the world go round.

Is there some actual facts on that or are you just conjecturing that roof top tent campers are crappier than other kind of campers. From my experience, there are shitty campers from all walks of life, just as good campers.

You could probably say that about nearly every taco owner on this site. They take a perfectly functional vehicle and then spend a bunch of money to complicate the fuck out of it to make it look cool or some shit.
