So I'm going to try alignment, but is there a how-to on trimming and molding? I mean, I know it's not rocket science, but it's a road I haven't gone down before.

Added Rekgen mudflaps with room to spare.

Perhaps the offset of your wheels is the issue?

Man, I have lots of room to plastic with 265/65/17's. Don't see how 265/70/17's will rub at all.

What happens there when you're off-road, steering wheel locked either way, and your suspension compresses? You don't rub on those flaps?

More caster is your solution or trim the plastic liner a little. You only should only need to trim the lower few inches and a box cutter should work. When I was running FN Fx Pros that are 0 offset and 4.5" backspacing I ran into a little rub on 265/70r17's and was able to fix it with caster alone. I didnt need a CMC or anything else to wheel with no rub on that setup. My current setup is a whole different story.

Its all about wheel specs having to do with backspacing, offset and width differences.

Also for perspective, the pic I attached is with the truck parked nose down in a section of my driveway with a fairly steep pitch, so this is with the fron suspension somewhat compressed. I don’t rub on flat ground at full lock.

What size wheel are you running?
265/70/17s can easily fit on a Tacoma with no rub even with no lift on stock sport wheels so the fact that you are rubbing on your truck has me assuming you have some pretty wide wheels like a 17x8 or 17x9?

I'm currently running TRD Pro Sema wheels, 17x7 with a +4 offset, on 265/70/17 KO2 tires don't have any rubbing issues even with the factory mudflaps installed.
Back Space is about 4.2" on a 7" wide wheel.
From the hub the wheel is 4.2" inward and 2.8" outward.
This creates plenty of fender clearance when at full lock.
    • With a higher offset, your wheels mount farther inward, providing greater clearance between the outside edge of the tire and fender, but less clearance between the inside edge of the tire and your vehicle’s suspension.
    • With a lower offset, your wheels will mount farther outward, providing more room around the suspension but can cause clearance issues between the outside edge of the tire and the fender.

If you are running an 8" wide wheel with -12 offset
I feel like you might be able to get everything to fit with a good a alignment.
You will need to pull your factory mudflaps which it looks like you have already done.
From the hub the wheel is 4" inward and 4" outward

You are probably going to need to start modifying if you are running 9" wide wheels unfortunately. (Cab mount chop)
    -12 on a 9" rim is 4.5" inward and 4.5" outward

No sir. Folks on here stated my setup would not rub and they were right.

I like this size of tire, less issues. They may not look as boss as the wider tires but they fill the fender wells and I do plan to lift about 1.25" in a few months. Plus they cut thru mud better with less sliding than wider tires.

It is a 9” wheel, but cab mount doesn’t seem to be where it’s rubbing. Maybe I’m not thinking about this correctly, but I don’t get how width of the rim could cause a rub (offset I do get) because it’s rubbing at the knuckle of the tire which wouldn’t change by the sidewall being pulled out by a wider wheel.

I had same issue with my -12 offset and 285’s. After an alignment and caster above 2 I only rub on cab mount. Its Amazing how loud thin plastic running on a tire is huh? Obviously depending on the tech you get your numbers will vary. But if you emphasize I need max caster . . .

Everyone has different alignment numbers, wheels, tires, etc. so everyone has different “ well I have x and I don’t rub” stories.

This is the OP's alignment sheet guys.
You can't get more caster without jacking the camber way out.

I understand what you guys are saying about wheels and backspacing but the SPC UCA's are way cheaper than a new set of rims and swapping tires.
With that alignment the truck will feel twitchy and require constant input to keep it heading straight no matter what rim or tire you put on it.

OP this will solve your problem. pay once cry once

What happens when the tire hits a pot hole or speed brake, does it get worse? If not I'd try to smooth the plastic down as far as possible.

I have the same size tire and not even close to rubbing even at full articulation and lock. The best thing to do is go to a 3 degree caster with UCAs. Don’t chop for that size tire...chopping is silly

So I went out and drove it a bit more on some tight windy roads and did a lot of dive braking in curves, and coming in and out of my driveway which means going over a large bump. Basically I've only been able to get it to rub within 20 feet of my house, and those circumstances are: backing up an incline turning the wheels to the left, coming to a stop on an incline with wheels turned to the left, and going over the bump in the driveway with wheels to the left. Hasn't rubbed yet with wheels pointed right, and it looks and sounds like it has only rubbed on the driver side. That makes me wonder if the Taco Lean is exacerbating it, and maybe it would in fact be alleviated by going up to the next notch (about another 1/2") on the 5100s. Any actual chopping is not in the cards. I'd move to a different wheel/tire if it came to that, but I'm not opposed to trimming/molding plastic. Like I said though, it's not something I've done so I've got to find some direction on how to go about it. I will go to an alignment shop before making any moves. That alignment sheet is from a few thousand miles ago, so perhaps it shifted some, though I doubt it has shifted in a meaningful way. I really appreciate all the feedback, and would welcome any more. Great resources here.

Looks like this is going to have to be a cut and mold thing. There’s a much smaller rub in the front of the same fender, so pushing the wheels forward isn’t going to work either. Looks like I’ll be breaking out the saw and heat gun. Hopefully that will be enough.
