Start saving then wait for the Black Friday deals. That’s when I got my coilovers, leaf springs and rear shocks. It helped some. Got the UCAs second-hand in the BST thread.

Took the week of April 15th off to put all this shit on the truck finally. First attempt at installing a lift. I’ll probably be asking plenty of questions in here...

I’m just a fan of history, design, amd lots of odd stuff ...
I also find interesting connections through large-view time.
Ex- Toyota came in strong precisely where & when International called it quits, sold off the agricultural part of the business & concentrated on commercial trucks.
Toyota stepped into the spot as the “odd brand” of well made, dependable trucks & the market of the 4x4 small trucks that compete with the Jeep, with 1980 as the 4x4 pivot (Scout dropped, Toyota comes on strong- both boxy mini-trucks).

    I forget, ya’ll haven’t met me & my “peculiarities” ...
    hahahahaha
My Miata is made to look like a 1960s Team Lotus race car.
My xB (2nd gen) had elements from Morris Minors, Austin A35s, & vintage Toyotas, plus Divco, International, & Tonka ... It actually won carshow awards as a “retromobile.”
My 16 year old has been stripping them off. The Traveller, Toyota, 7cwt, Tonka, & Sprite badges are off, as are the “extra” nose pieces. It looks more “stock” now than it has in 8 years.

Seriously I’m done buying knifes. Spent way to much money the last month. Guys loosing their shit about benchmade helping the local pd cut up guns used in crimes so they are selling entire collections. I’ve been sitting back low balling and adding to my collection! Got two 940-2, a freek, a boost, a 555 grip, and grizzly creek all in the last 10 days. I’m done for real.

Toyota entered the US market in the late '50's, didn't start getting popular until late '60's, reliability and fuel efficiency were the hallmark. Toyota, Nissan(Datsun) and Honda took the Big 3 to school in that realm. Notice at some point all 3 major US manufacturers had partnered with one of the Asian manufacturers during that time. (late '70s-early mid '90's)

Toyota will rule the world one day, they are their own largest customer as well as one of the largest companies, not just in automobiles.

Not to bad for a sewing machine maker....

IH died due its own inefficient and outdated practices. too expensive to retool and be profitable in the increasing fuel wars and current economy of the time.

Want another example from your statement that I highlighted?

My bone stock '90 Toyota p/u was the only model with the cheap 100% plastic black grill.

Now- they sell that nearly identical grill as "TRD Pro"!! Click my meager, neglected build thread for pics of my 1990 Toyota- as shown in the early/mid '90's.

After WW2, most German & Japanese automotive companies partnered with an American or British (primarily), for the Western world (All eastern European countries tied to Russia), to rebuild. Many of those relationships continued for decades, with GM buying into, or outright, most of their partners.
Ford & Chrysler maintained international relationships for decades, only really obvious in the US in the 70s/80s & following, as the Japanese companies starting making US products look like, old, massive, obsolete, inefficient dino-beasts.

Toyota actually partnered with VW ... an odd connection. Plus, there was some GM ties, as Toyota used GM tech pre-WW2 (GIs used GM parts to repair captured Toyota trucks) & officially after the war, but less than other brands like Isuzu.

International severely mismanaged itself into the ground, from stupid r&d allocation & sales decisions (basically pitting internal parts against each other, all the way to active sabotage), plus failed completely to market to women or really outside their farm or commercial dealerships. Plus, there was more than can be covered here. They did lots of dumb crap, even when they HAD good products.

Toyota learned from International’s mistakes & filled the void, marketed much, much better, & succeded.
Toyota struggled severly in the US till the fuel crisis with cars, then the late 70s/early 80s with trucks. Then, they just took over. That timing is what I was thinking about.

    As for design:
    1975 International pickup:
    4E145D3C-1C2C-442D-96A3-C7C25A518A23.jpg
    F83A14CD-B310-4357-B523-C50CBD5C5530.jpg
    1980 Toyota pickup:
    1659AE35-94F8-4E93-8951-D5FDA317A243.jpg

    1980 Scout:
    23B0F3E7-1BF4-4BF3-9A17-3C43BB6F8F91.jpg
    1984 4Runner
    04BA9665-E4CF-4B91-B67E-53D3FC1996CC.jpg

To me, they bear some resemblance, esp. in comparison to the other contemporaries.

Maybe, I read too much into it ...
    hahahahaha
    (Actually, I know I do)

    Exactly!
Toyota’s design looks like a logical progression of what IH was doing.

If IH wasn’t so stupid, I could see rebadging done between them.

    How stupid was 1970s IH?
Only sold family & ofroad trucks through tractor &/or commerial truck dealers. Imagine a family or young person looking for a truck & having to go to either Kuboto/John Deere or Peterbilt/Kenworth dealers to get the product. Kinda limits your options. Image living in an urban or suburban area. Would you even know where to start looking? -doh-
& they wondered why they struggled with market share (facepalm)

I see no resemblance between Toyota and IH, mechanical or body. only so many ways you can package a 4wd station wagon.
Early Land Cruiser engines were loosely based off the Chevy Stove bolt 6 of the early 40s-50’s

the 4Runner was a marketing move in response to the popularity of the Winnebago Trekker that Toyota and Winnebago RV developed in the early ‘80’s. And it paid off well.....

At the same time JEEP launched the Cherokee, then the next year Bronco II and S-10 Blazer

Wagoners and Suburbans were already a thing, IH couldn’t keep up

Trucks in general weren’t a common sale at that time, Farmers were at tractor dealers all the time, why not sell them a truck too ? likely financed the same way, maybe even the same deal as a tractor purchase.
Pickup trucks in the 50s-70s were back lot baby’s, rarely did you see one on the dealership front line unless you were in farm country. Commercial sales and agriculture were the truck mainstream back then.
IH MIGHT have had a chance if they were able to hang on into the he soccer mom boom of Mini vans and Cute Ute SUVs

Im looking up SCDNR regulations for hunting and I cam across 2.7 – On WMA lands construction or use of tree stands and temporary climbing devices is prohibited if the tree stand or temporary device is constructed by driving nails, screws or other devices into the tree; or the tree stand or temporary climbing device is constructed by wrapping wire around the tree.
If im reading this correct I F’ing cant use my summit climber?
