There are no configurations that allow a bakflip MX4 to open while using a rack, correct? It would have to stay closed from all the research I have done, but I wanted to ask the source for confirmation.

That is correct. All access to the bed would be through the tailgate.

If you need full access to the bed for a large item, the rack comes off with four bolts.

Perfect. Thank you. I just wanted to make sure there was not an option I am missing before I purchase the Max Mod 10 inch.

Will it work with this cover?

The side panels are pretty important to me. Is this because I would be able to put the 4 base plates closer/further to avoid the pins? If that works, would you be able to fabricate some shorter/longer accessory side panels and thus making it work with oem tonneau and being able to use the accessory panels?

Yeah, the panels lock the rack into a cretain length, and it may interfere with your pins (measure to make sure).

We do have some shorter panels that we use on our ALUMAX SL six leg rack that might work for you: https://www.max-modular.com/shop-max-modular/alu-max-six-leg-aluminum-truck-bed-rack

These pictures show the dimensions of the Max URTC:

Within the next few days I will be placing an order for the Taco MAX 10" rack for my 3rd gen SB. I'm having trouble deciding on the 46" or 58" length. I'll be putting a Smittybilt Overlander tent on top as well as the side bike mount. Eventually getting some maxtrax and other goods.

So my question to TW members is: which is preferred by current owners, the 46" or the 58"?

Have you read all the issues with KB Voodoo? Might want to check it out before placing an order. There is a reason they are no longer a vendor here.

Youre talking about the powdercoating issue right? I think they addressed that already

I have a 58" with a side Thule bike mount. I sometime wish I went with the 46" bc of the length. With a 58" you would have to extend the bike mount. I have an ARB Touring RTT (same size as the Smittybilt). It fits quite well. But the 46" inch would hold the Smitty as well.. hope this helps..

Yup and while they said they fixed it. Many members posted that it wasn’t and still had issues. I think that was the final straw.

This isn't an uncommon complaint for KBV's products.
