Work Pants

Hey everyone, I was just hoping to get some insight on my next purchase of work pants. I work for a government contractor as an aircraft technician at Pt. Mugu. The biggest problem I've found is that I tend to need to crouch, get on one knee, and sit on asphalt pretty regularly.
You can laugh all you want, but I've been using Condor pants since I was hired about 7 months ago and, until a few weeks ago, they've held up very nicely. Now, however, I've split the crotch seam in 2 of my 3 pairs, and the right knee is starting to wear through the first half of the double knee on all 3 pairs.
I bought some Duluth Flex Fire Hose pants and they are great and seem like they're going to hold up very well to the test of time BUT it's starting to warm up hear in the Ventura area and they're a bit too warm for the upcoming summer months.
I'm just hoping for some information on what everyone is wearing that is durable, breathes well, and has a few extra pockets for things like pens and a small flashlight. Thanks for any help!

 

I like the Nylon pants that have some stretch in them, easily found at Sams, Costco, etc, not sure how well they would stand up to your line of work though. I work outside and they seem ok, a little sketchy in some of the seams, but the price point of typically $15 is just right.

 

I found these at Walmart. They are 98% cotton. 2% spandex. They are very flexible and easy to move in without being baggy.

Don't confuse them with the 100% cotton carpenter pants, make sure they say "FLEX" on them. My local Walmart only had them in gray. I bought a pair and liked them enough to order a pair of brown and green. Not a lot of pockets though. Just a small pocket big enough for a cell phone on the right thigh other than the standard pockets.

Not cheap by any margin. But I volunteer for a local SAR team and I wear these as part of our uniform. I've tried several other brands of tactical pants, but these are extremely comfortable, have a lot of stretch for climbing, have tons of pockets and with the rip-stop fabric are tough while being lightweight. They aren't baggy at all.

If you like jeans Wrangler is making some with the Flex fabric. I'll probably never wear standard jeans again. Also sold at Walmart, but in limited sizes. You may have to look for them or even order them. They don't just stretch in the waistband, but all over. Just enough spandex in them to make it work. They don't LOOK any different than other jeans.

I think Duluth makes Armachillo firehose pants...

 

I’ve had good luck with Vertx. Although pricey they offer a variety of fabric weights depending on your climate, gusseted crotch and articulated knees.

 

I LOVE my Duluth Flex Fire Hose pants! I would look at other Duluth products as I have been very satisfied with the product.

 

Carhart or Dickies scrubs pants (like what dental assistance/vet techs and the such wear). Try to find a place that sells hospital scrubs. I have several pairs of these, and they are comfortable and breathable. You might need to invest in a set of knee pads though. Not sure how well they will hold up on asphalt, but they do ok on subfloors and concrete.

I work for a maintenance dept in a nuclear facility where temps stay steady around 100* or more inside the building. These are what the majority of my techs wear.

Thanks for all of the input. I was looking at brands ranging from Duluth, to Carhartt, to Mascot. Mascot customer service tried to convince me to look into pair of $160 dry clean only pants, I laughed at them. I ended up going with Duluth Twill Carpenter pants. I was between them, Carhartt, and a few others, but the Duluth went on sale this weekend for $35, so that made my decision easy!
