    Thanks.
I hear good things about Captain Jacks. Thoughts?
Of those four beds that are in the pictures that I submitted ,three of them have had squash in them over last couple years. That being said I am gonna just swap out the soil. Do you have suggestions on what I should do with the soil? Should I just haul it away?

Sure, Captain Jack is the same idea as the BT spray. Same as the BT, though, spray it in the evening so it's got time to dry before the bees show up again the next morning.
You can use it for other things. Flower beds typically don't care what they're planted with, and they have their own 'brand' of pests so the veggie pests that overwintered generally won't bother them. Plus, they're pretty, you don't have to mow them, and they help out the local bee population.

Or, you can haul it away :notsure:

Has this spot been tilled before? Looks like a lot of grass...

Yep, every year. Last fall the grass invaded, and I didn't have time to get after it. Paying the price now.

Here is a photo from last year when I was tilling.

Got the first bed all lined on the bottom yesterday. I used landscaping weed barrier covered with some chicken wire and stapled it to the sides of the box to seal off the edges. Now to get the dirt transferred from the other box and do that one. I'm hoping the combo of weed barrier and chicken wire will give it a solid barrier with enough rigid backing to keep the ground critters out. Now I just need to teach the dog to stop jumping in the boxes.

I built 3 for my brother, what I did to mitigate water damage was line the inside while its empty with 6 or 10 mil visquene (plastic) and stapled it to the sides to keep the moisture from the soil off the wood as much as I could. His have lasted 8 years now. I just went for just above where your dirt level will be to the bottom of the wood. Obviously you want the bottom left open for drainage.
    Hope that helps someone.

Just checked and some of my seeds have sprouted . Had them on a towel ( cold wood floor) with sweatshirt over them near baseboard heater. Five days. I need to get a lamp that I should have already had, but we’ll see

I just started some this past Sunday. As of this morning none of them had poked thru yet, but I'm ready!

Yessir! Pole beans and cukes popped, giving them a little light . As I mentioned I had them covered and near warm heat . I think that helped
    Any minute now Noel!

I don't bother starting beans or curcubits, honestly. I've tried it in the past, and by the time they recover from the transplant shock it seems like the ones that I direct-sow are just as far along. :notsure:
Now I just start stuff like Tomatoes, peppers, etc. This year I'm trying onions again, but they're more of an experiment than anything because I didn't have great luck with them direct-sown, so I'm starting some indoors to see what they do.

    :goingcrazy:

Don't mind the weird tint; my grow light is an LED unit that only broadcasts the spectrums that the plants absorb, or some such science-y bullsh*t. All I know is that it doesn't produce a lot of heat, doesn't drive my power bill up, and seems to work  :notsure:

I was going to turn the beds tomorrow, but it is raining and cold. Wife and kid started some broccoli seeds last week, but they haven’t popped yet. I’m about two weeks out anyway.

Peppers and tomatoes are doing good. Heat mats are off. If it every dries out its time to get potatoes and onions in. I also am planting a new crop of strawberries which its time for that as well in my area but just too wet. With all the rain this spring my garlic took a hit. I will have some but much of what I planted didn't make it. That's part of gardening. Always something. On a good note we got 2 of the 3 bee hives through the winter. Going to work them today weather permitting and get them ready for spring.

I too am curious about trellis. I got a pole bean seed in a bush package and had to improvise and have never used one for cukes. I am intentionally planting poles beans now so ...

Got some planting done. Lettuce, spinach, beets, potatoes, carrots, chard and kale are all in. Covered the rest of the garden with heavy plastic. It will be almost two months before that part gets planted, so the plastic will have a decent amount of time to kill weeds. Also got 32 more tomato plants started in pots.
