2nd gen here. Vibes started after getting my alignment for the newly installed Icons Coilovers and JBA UCAs. Tires were cupped from badly worn shocks. Replaced those in hopes for vibes to be eliminated. No luck. Toyota took a look under extended warranty. Removed the driveline entirely and still vibes existed. Installed carrier bearing spacer anyways. Maybe helped a little didnt really notice though the tech said he did. Finally saw this thread and heard from otheres to try 4wd on a flat straight road. Tried that vibes didnt seem to go away in 4wd but I think I was just being anal about any remaining. Checked in the garage any play from the carrier to the CV in 2wd vs 4wd and it was a worlds difference between passenger and driver in 2wd. With the former being stiff from the carrier and the driver side having about an inch of play. 4wd play was gone on the driver side.

Those of you that replaced the needle bearing with the ECGS clamshell bearing, was that something you noticed before replacement as well? I also seem to get a loud clunk at full crank not sure if at all related.

    So, what GEN? :D
    Just kiddin’...

:eek::eek:An inch of play!!!!:eek::eek: Good golly!

I got underneath to ensure all my suspension connections and nuts/bolts were tight to find a LOT of play (not an inch though) in my DS transaxle too.

Time to get that needle bearing out and th bushing in.

I’d be very interested in seeing pics of this needle bearing once removed as well as the axle when pulled.

    Good luck my friend!

So, who could assist w/words of advice while drinking my beer? I have the typical weekend warrior wrenches, bushing, new seal, but no tool to remove the bearing or to put in the bushing.

Anybody available this week or coming weekend in Tucson area?

Now with the ecgs bushing there is no play at all in 2wd. Its very tight and it feels allot smoother rolling down the street

ECGS done today. Could not get the needle bearing out with a copycat puller I made. Had to pull the CV all the way out and use a “pilot bearing puller” from oreilly. I used dry ice to help shrink the old and new bushings.
    Recommendations:
    Borrow the puller tools
Get a 35 mm socket and a good impact wrench
    Use dry ice
Drive the CV out using the notches
    Install a new seal

    Results are dramatically better.

My play seemed to be worse then others reported here, and since Toyota already charged me for some other crap they were doing under my extended warranty but didn't find that loose CV, got chalked it up for me paying for their diagnosis. After several minutes looking I found the play, decided today I am going to at least have them look one more time to try and make it right since they had me pay already. Next Wednesday I will see what they say; and will have the ECGS bearing by then to see if they will do it since they dropped the ball initially. Mostly posting in case others run into similar issues, will update after.

It’s still in. Did you get it out? Looks like it broke apart. Mine came out in pieces. Plus you need a new seal.

I have vibes at about 60-70MPH. Have some play here:

Is there enough play to require a bushing?

I bought the bushing and was hoping to find a shop to do the install but so far I’ve had no luck. Any recommendations I’m in SoCal Long Beach area. Or I’m thinking of doing the work my self. PM me if you have a tool for rent/sale

Somebody was sayin' there's a seal out there that's like $6 'n Change. Had the opportunity to see such animal recently. Sorry, forgot to take pic's likely due to me laughing hysterically at what they called a seal. If i'm goin' in there, I don't want to do it Twice. Just my $0.02

4 Wheel Parts in Van Nuys did mine with the lift....$250 Labor....I provided parts and puller. Did the cab mount chop too and properly gusseted...was concerned about quality at first but they did a good job....
