TRD Pro skid plate install notes

    Hey all, first post here. I couldn't easily find this information when I searched the forums so I thought I would post some reference info. Install was easy and straight forward. You remove the factory skid plates by removing 8 12mm bolts. Remove 4, 17mm bolts securing the subframe, which are replaced with teh factory hardware mentioned below.

    I bought a TRD PRO skid plate locally for a great price (yay, CL!) but it didnt come with the correct hardware. Thankfully one of the dealers in the valley had the factory bolt kit in stock.

    For future reference: Part#
    $61 PTR60-35160-HW Front Skid Plate, 1 Pack
    PTR60-35160-HW
    This kit includes everything needed to install the TRD PRO skid plate.

    Torqued everything to spec (33ft/lbs for 17mm bolts., 21ft/lbs for 12mm bolts).

    The difference between the factory OR skid plat and the PRO is huge. The factory is very thin sheet metal. The PRO skid plate is maybe 1/8" solid aluminum and is a vast improvement.

    The Pro skid is 1/4” aluminum.

    Here is it compared to the thin steel one:

    Just support the skid with your chest or legs until you get one bolt started. It goes easily after that.

    I used the chest and legs technique as well. I agree, after one bolt it's smooth sailing.

    The box it came in was handy for me to hold it up higher in the air than on the ground.

    As an FYI, I've read more than one account of the rear bolts having issues with the recommended torque values. People broke off the welded nut inside the frame. I think I torqued my rear bolts to 17-18 ft-lbs to be safe.

    I need to drop my plate to replace the red letters with a set of Tuffskinz silver this spring and I'm chasing a rattle somewhere under the truck, but I plan on likely using the floor jack method to get it back into place.

    I think it’s usually does. I bought mine 2nd hand and the seller didn’t include hardware.

    I don’t think so. The clearance from the Pro skid plate to diff housing bottom is next to nothing, at least on my truck.
