Should we use the Stock high beam H9s in the low beams (after modifying the bulb socket, of course)?

 

Obviously you would need to replace the high beam bulb then. But that is a free way to try out the mod before spending any money on bulbs.

 

Actually, I went swapping out the H11 low beam with a H9, while leaving the high beam alone.

To continue to conversation of replacing the low beam H11's with the stock H9 high beam bulb - any thoughts on the lifespan of the stock H9 high beam used as a low beam?

 

Rated life span of 250 hours. I run bulbs rated at 200 hours, I don’t run my lights in the day time, and they last almost exactly one year. Based on my use they would last 15 months. Your usage may vary.

 

I think I found how to get the best performing German Philips H9s domestically for the price of the Hellas.

ACDelco is a parts brand owned by GM. ACDelco H9s appear to be Philips German “Vision” H9s. GM appears to use the same H9s as Toyota but sell them under their own reboxed brand of ACDelco, for significantly less at $9. And being GM they are easy to buy domestically. They don’t even bother to change the name on the back of the bulb. I’ve ordered some off Amazon to confirm before directing people to an Amazon link.

 

How much are the bulbs from Toyota? I checked... $45+ per bulb!!! List price is $65.54! Oof... they’ll sell tens of those...

 

Wow that is absurd! By comparison some GM parts suppliers sell them for $7.

 

I received and installed the Hyper Yellow bulbs yesterday. As someone else mentioned, the light is a pale YELLOW rather than amber. Suits me fine. One thing I noticed, which kinda' surprised me is that the OE fog light bulbs were OSRAM H16 12V 19W. I guess that I just assumed that they would also be H11 55W. You know what they say about assumptions...

 

TRD trucks have H11 wide-angle fogs, non-TRD 3rd Gens have standard H16 fogs.

 

Except Canadian TRD sport.....come with H16 foglamps socket and bulbs like the SR5...

Canadian TRD Offroad come with the H11 wide-angle fogs

 

So are the fog light housings also different, or is it just the bulbs?

Housing is different, you need to "trim" the little metal tab on the H11 bulb to fit.

 

Not knowing that the H11 bulbs wouldn't fit without trimming, I just put them in without trimming. Oops!

They say that a Hummingbird shouldn't be able to fly. Hummingbirds don't know this, so they fly anyway.

Reread it. It's two different housings and two different bulbs.

 

The housing and beam pattern are different. TRD trucks in the US come with wide angle fogs that project nearly 90 degrees to the side of the truck, the other models come with standard more forward facing fogs. Since the TRD fogs cover much more area, they need a much brighter light source, hence the H11.
