lighter is great for pavement only use, but for those of us that get into terrain with sharp rocks and broken trees that can puncture tires more weight means more rubber which to me means a tougher tire.

Has anyone tried the Toyo RT? I'm looking at those as well as the st maxx and falken wildpeak in 255/80R17. the more i read, the more confused I get. The Falkens and Coopers both have lots of good and some bad reviews on here and other places....

Was able to get a CMC done this weekend with some fender flare trimming. It pushed back the flaps and gave me the room I need for now. I'll definitely rub off roading at certain angles, but I can get by for now without issue. Here is my post with details and pics.

Doesn't hurt to send an email to manufacturers to show interest in sizes that they don't produce. I sent one to falken for a 255/85r16 wildpeak. I don't know whether it will ever end up happening but they did at least reply to my email.

So I’m on 265/70r17 toyo at2s on the fn pro wheels. I got them from day one with the truck and they have been great. I have 55k on them now so planning out the next set for this summer. I had some very minor running on full turn with speed stock. But since I have put in the bp51 with Dakar lift and have no issues at all. Expect the tires look a little small.

Currently Im debating between the 255/75r17 ko2 or the 255/80r17 toyo....

Pros to the ko2 are it’s a load c and 6 lbs lighter than the toyo at 44 lbs. Cons are it’s only a 32”.

Pros to the toyo is it’s a 33”. Cons are it’s a load e and weights 50 lbs. so stiff and heavy......

Get the Toyo and be happy with your choice going forward! 6lbs is t going to change things dramatically. My Toyo’s are over 60lbs and they drive great! Fuel impact is minimal and worth the few extra bucks a month

Hey everyone wanted to get some help, please tell at me if this violates any rules.

Looking at replacing stock 265/70/16 tires for my 16 trd or long bed mounted on scs Ray 10.

Uses: It's a daily driver for commuting but I mountain bike a lot and head out on trails to get there. We have a tepui tent in the bed and will be getting a shell soon.

Question: Going to get a suspension system and looking at the ome bp51 kit or the regular ome kit with the Dakar leaf pack.

What are the opinions on 265/75/16 vs 285/75/16 vs 255/85/16? Mpg loss need to regear?

I have 265/70r17s so basically the same thing and they have been great. I went with toyo load c so they are pretty light and no real mpg hit.

The 285s will run and need a cmc.

Cooper ST 255/85r16 are 49lbs. I ran them, they were ok but I have also run the ST Maxx which i preferred. Don’t get to hung up on the weight. If weight is what drives your decision you might be disappointed in the long run

Im not worried about the slight weight difference. It was just something different so I listed it..... Im more worried about running the load e tire

    It basically comes down to a 32" load c vs a 33" load e

I feel like there is a lot of misinformation surrounding the load ratings of tires. My st maxx in 35’s had a D rating and rode rougher than my E rated Toyo MT tires. You can just run a psi or two less to get a smoother ride if you find them firmer then you like. My feeling is the truck does ride firmer but between tires and suspension firmer is positive

I have the 2.7 as well and I am considering the 34x10.5x17 KO2. Just curious how your truck is performing with the bigger tires. Do they seem to be bogging down the motor? Have you had to re-gear? Noticed a big drop in mileage and acceleration? Thanks!!!

Got my 34x10.50r17s today. Here's them next to the 265/70/17s they are replacing.

Just saw this photo in the “new green” thread. First time ever that I’ve seen the original military pattern skinnies with stippling (rain/water grooves). Not saying they haven’t been around forever, but I hadn’t come across them. Then again these may have been custom added. ??

Back on post #546 I said that if I could use this style of tire on wet pavement, I’d jump on it! They are unsurpassed in their versatility for off-road performance (mud, sand, rock, or snow) and now maybe even pavement (dry or wet).

I have no idea of availability, cost, size, wheel width requirements, or even if they’re legal (plate looks foreign). But I am going to spend some time looking into it all and hope for it to work in my favor. The orig mil wheels on the Willy's were only 6 inches wide. It might be difficult to find some for my six-lug hubs.

    Photo provided by @JCOOR.

Edit: Odd that a photo from another thread gets an error msg about not being the right format. Oh well, you can see the USMC jeep photo on page #2 of "Army Green is here" thread.

Thank you for posting the photo!
Obviously it must be my machine (work computer) and not TW.

I have the 2.7 as well. How does your truck drive with those big tires? Did you notice a loss of power? Thanks!

Has lost some power but not that bad to me. However Its manageable having a 5 speed with 4.10 stock gears. I lost some fuel economy as well, my next set of tires might be 235's instead of 255's.

will there be some loss of available power with larger tires? of course! however will there be more satisfaction by going with the tires you want instead of smaller and always wishing for more, yes!
