Any good suggestions on running boards? The stealership wanted $695 and I LOLed in their face.

I def don't want chrome or aluminum color - def looking for black - what kind do you have/like/prefer and why?

This is my first truck so I'm looking for pros and cons of diff boards.

    thanks.

Get sliders then steps are just that steps. Sliders offer protection and damage the doors of the idiots that don't care about your car or theirs.

Decide what you are going to do with your truck --then decide if you need sliders or not. I do not need this level of protection, so I went with some good N-fab steps from Auto-anything. If you have plenty of money to burn and don't care, go with the ultimate and get some sliders that work as sliders and stick out a bit more and can work as steps as well.
    Good luck with your shopping.

I don't see myself doing any sort of offroading or crawling as the nerds call it lol.....it will be mostly to be utilitarian around town - hauling car tires/wheels for my other vehicle, etc.

Why are they called sliders by chance?

I saw the textured N Fabs and thought they looked nice, a bit low but I liked the style and function.

I should let the off road experts answer this --but I'll try. I thinks they are called sliders cause they will allow the truck body to "slide" along any rocks/obstacles without damaging the body (hopefully). I do know they must be attached to the frame as to become part of the heavy duty understructure of the truck. They literally need to carry the weight of the truck without smashing upward. For these reasons they are more expensive and heavy. Step/nerf bars attach to the body (not the frame).
Experts feel free to correct me!

Are you sure you need running boards? The factory ones on my truck are really not functional as no one uses them, they add unnecessary weight, and get you pants dirty when rubbing up against you leg while entering/exiting.

Go to a dealer, find a Tacoma with boards installed, and enter/exit a few times using/stepping on the running boards. Unless you’re shorter than average, you’ll find them unnecessary for the intended purpose. That said, some look great installed... but the negatives may prevail regardless.

ok that's kinda what I was thinking myself because I've seen some of the crawler videos of 4 Runners and Tacomas and I follow that Last Line of Defense guy b/c he gets a lot of p---y.

I got some nerf bars from running board warehouse. They were $150 and easy to put on. I decided I didn’t need sliders, and these stick out a bit to protect from door dings. Also useful for washing the roof and putting stuff on the roof. 8DF7334A-AAA1-4EE9-80BA-58B5141D0649.jpg

They are a pain is the ass on your pants till you develop a method of exit without hitting them.

    I love the Toyota Boards....no rust/door dings/gravel chips.....makes washing the roof easy.

    AND they look good...:thumbsup:DSCN1084.jpg

If you want running boards you should probably look in the dumpster cause they’re trash.
