    Playing spy tonight. We've been invited to a movie screening. It's produced by a group that CLAIMS to be all about water conservation. It's their spin on shutting down several VERY popular off road "venues" in Kentucky, allegedly because of bats contracting "White Nose Syndrome", a fungal infection that's killing off certain species of bats. They CLAIM water pollution , as a result of 4wds crossing several creeks near caves that the bats call home, being a contributing cause, even with ZERO evidence to back up their claims. Gonna sit there quietly and absorb as much as possible, then go talk with a couple front men for the off road groups that support use of the area.

    White Nose Syndrome has Nothing to do with Water Pollution. Several Canadian Biologists & Micro Biologists have been researching this for years.     They're trying to do a "guilt by association" with anyone outside of the tree hugging community. White Nose Syndrome started in upstate New York. Now, Southern Indiana is the epicenter, with Kentucky just now seeing serious issues. I'm going to be a fly on the wall....Not saying a thing. Just recording and passing along to the correct folks.

    WNS will kill bats, but not all of them. Originally thought of as having a huge ecological disaster potential. It seems to be on the downswing in these parts, with the remaining bats starting to recover slowly, with resistance to it. Some bats have adapted strategies to stay warm when the WNS causes them to wake from Hibernation, keeping them alive.

    The only possible way off roading could potentially have an impact would be contamination. However, those vehicles would have to be contaminated before entering the area. Also, the fungus thrives in cold, damp environments, like their caves, and persists there. So if it’s already there, you can’t really change that. Stay out of the caves, and leave the bats alone is the best thing to do. Some researchers have found that UV can kill the fingus, and are looking at how to implement some type of treatment without harming the bats further.
