Can any of you guys recommend a good cheap pin pointer?? I just need one that will detect shotgun pellets in wild game meat. My wife does not like biting down on pellets. :frusty:

Please do. If I find out that a pin pointer will detect small lead or tungsten pellets in meat, I will definitely get one.
These tungsten pellets will break teeth!

Was just talking with my aunt who lives in Nevada and she was metal detecting with a family friend in a mining arenout by where my other uncle lives and they found a Carson city minted quarter and initial estimate is anywhere from 25-50k!!! It’s currently being appraised. I don’t remember the year it was but what a find. Sorry no picture of it just a story

FWIW the knock off garrett I ordered was all but useless... didn't sound off until it was basically touching coins. Side by side to the garrett its a joke. I ordered it just to have a back up at that price I figured you can't really go wrong. This was about a year ago, so I guess there is a chance they got better. I watched some videos AFTER receiving mine because I figured mine had to be a dud, but there were several youtube videos comparing the knock off to the real garrett and thy had the same results I did.

That sounds pretty wild, do you remember which year? And of course out of curiosity what part of Nevada? Southern, Central, Northern?

Good to know. Thanks. I'm not wanting to be really cheap. I need one that will work for my intended purpose.

Not sure of the year but the find was in Northern Nevada. Wellington area that’s about 45 min SE of Carson city. My aunt also found a pendant type thing the same day that’s worth $100-200. I’ll ask her the year of the coin in a little bit as the family is together this weekend.

I've enjoyed reading this thread. Back in 1999 I bought a Whites detector. I used it for about a year then got bored as I wasn't finding much. Southern California beaches get combed over all day every it seems. I have found a couple cheap rings, some modern pocket change, lost keys, matchbox cars etc. I did find a steak knife under the swings at a park once. I thought that was an odd place to have a steak knife. I sold the gear a long time ago and over the last couple years have wished I didn't.

She thinks it was 1879 and supposedly only 35 of them made

This is the thing my aunt found. I guess the quarter got set back east for appraisal. Sorry this is a picture of what’s on her phone.

I detected up this 1876 Seated Liberty Quarter today. It's a little rough, but certainly a keeper.

I think it looks awesome! A Seated coin like that is like my holy grail and tough to come by here in Iowa. The oldest I've found is a quarter and cent from 1899 back when I was active. Started with my White's Spectrum XLT back in 1998 and still have it. Need to get back out there...

I would love to hear about the Carson City coin your Aunt found. I have a small handful of CC coins and I find the history behind them fascinating!
Do you have any idea to whom she sent the coin? I'm guessing your Aunt found a 1870 or an 1871 quarter form the CC mint. They could each bring big money in a circulated condition. There is even a very rare 1873 CC variety that would go for serious money.
Please post up any info your Aunt is willing to share!
