    Can anyone tell me what the wiper arm force should be, measured by a spring scale out at the blade attachment point? In the past few years my 2007 blades have increasingly started to skip and chatter. Trying different brands of blades has not helped, as have neither Windex, RainX, etc., etc. . I found a small coil spring in my shop and attached it to the built-in wiper arm spring and, bingo, wiping problem cured! Obviously the original springs have fatigued over time. Not being in the mood to spend $80+ (!) for one new wiper arm, I am thinking of getting used arms from a wrecking yard, but if the springs in used ones are just as weak, I will be throwing good money after bad. If I know the minimum arm force, I can take a spring scale with me to test used wiper arms before I buy. Can anyone can help with this?

    6inch lift sitting on bilstein coilovers. Lexus is300 studs in front to keep stock wheels, general grabber red letters, nfab front bumper.
    Why not just replace the wiper arm and be done? I highly doubt anybody has checked the strength on the wiper arm spring...
    bought a 30k dollar truck, can’t spend the 80 bucks for a new wiper arm...

    More than likely they only chatter in 1 direction. To work properly, the rubber needs to flop and drag. Not scrape like pushing a snow shovel. Turn the wipers on and shut the key off mid stroke in each direction. If it's not flopping, take a Crescent wrench, put it on the arm near the blade and twist it slightly so that the blades will flop.

    Mine chattered on the drivers side - I tried to cheap out with RainX but NG - Went with Bosh Icon $20 done no more problem. I don't get the $80 price - Bosh is the best you can buy as far as I know. What did I miss.

    He is talking about replacing the whole arms, not just the blades.

    This seems like a weird problem to have? The wiper arm spring does stretch a bit during use (to account for the curve of the glass), but for it to wear out? Do you live in an area where it frequently rains?

    Why not pull your spring and use the spring scale to see what it is? Since it's too weak you'll know the minimum to test for at the junk yard.

    Consider posting a WTB in the For Sale forum, maybe someone has them laying around they will sell for cheap.
