TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Yeah the wheel/tire combo on my other truck is 90lbs per corner. And thats with 295s. Dont even want to imagine how much my wheels and 35s would weigh

 

You know there’s a middle option right? I run 295s aka 34s even though they measure only a hair over 33.5”. I’m going to regear to 4.56 or 4.88 at some point. Your quote seems high for gears. I can get a set installed with master kits on both for under $3k CAD which is only about $2.2k USD.

Does anyone have input on a grease bearing packer for the bearings for all these pulleys? Trying to be proactive and not be without boost...or worse.

From personal experience, I've had 33s, 34s and 35s now...i plan on wearing down the 35s, probably regearing to 4.3s or 4.10s and going either 33s or 34s. just the jump from an AT 34 to a ST Maxx 35 I lost so much power. It still gets up and goes, but I definitely noticed a power loss. And I'm STILL tubbing shit to stop rubbing. Should have just stayed with 34s. 4.56 on 35s isn't bad, but its still alot of weight per corner. 4.56 with 34s felt like I revved up way to fast. So I think 4.10 with 33s or 4.3 with 34s would probably be perfect in a 6 speed.

 

Anyone have a write up or video on how to remove the gears to inspect the supercharger? We want to take a look the bearings and etc to see if there is something we don't see.

I don’t think so. Bearings are bearings and they can only spin 15k so many times.

 

Currently waiting on a mechanic to call me back. Transmission took a shit on me. Guy think either catastrophic failure (trans replacement) or the clutch disc exploded or something lol. I can put it in gear just fine, no difference in clutch pedal, but when I put it in gear and let out the clutch, I can hear a whirring/slight grinding from the trans and get zero power to driveshaft. I think he said maybe clutch hub broke apart on the shaft or something like that. I dunno. I just called and they said they are in process of of removing trans right now.

 

I would really appreciate a full bearing list on page 1. I want to buy all new to be certain. @12TRDTacoma, can you help with this?

So after a week of watching gauges I have some temp info. In the 60* temps I have currently thr front heat exchanger does its job even with a 2.5" pulley. My 30 minute commute in the morning with basic driving and a few power bursts keeps the post intercooler temps at ambient. In the afternoon temps are 5* above ambient with lots of idle through traffic and the occasional burst. Bottom line, front heat exchanger is totally adequate unless you buy a chill box to make sub ambient temps in the intercooler possible.

 

Yeah's its shitty, I had no warning, driving along just fine, no clutch slippage at all, go to accelerate around someone, all of a sudden *CLUNK* and everything rev bombs, no power. was able to limp off the highway, kept it in second gear and just cruised, anytime i tried to give it any power more than maintaining speed it would rev up with no power. Was forced to stop about 2 miles from home, after that it just quit on me, had to tow it home.

 

Praying its just a clutch replacement.

Yeah that's an easy 1k instead of like 4K+ for a new trans

 

Trust me, I feel your concern with cost of breakage. I'm 5 years away from paying my truck off. A deal like that would be no good here too. I'm getting clutch failure by your description of circumstances.

 

IS your clutch slipping? Stock clutch?
