Anyone have a smittybuilt rtt? Looking to get a tent but not going to use it enough to make it worth spending tepui money. Just wondering how the quality is.

 

@cbechtold my welds are starting to fail on my swingout so I pulled it off to mend and edit/repair it. What changes are you making? Maybe I can steal some ideas since I'll be at it

I'd probably just build something similar to what the guys at RelentlessFab offer, minus the latch they use. I'd use a Synergy latch I currently have. This I love mine! Not much else would be different. Jerry can/Rotopax mount, fold down table, tire carrier. I'm going to wait to rebuild it until after I put a ARB in my front diff and 35s on the truck. Maybe this upcoming Winter, if not Spring.

Do your switches by chance dim with your dash rheostat? I know that our trucks have variable voltage on the negative circuit, so it's tricky. I was going to try a few things, but figured maybe someone here would chime in first.

Mine did not. But I wired them straight from the battery and didn't bother with the dimming circuit.

On the black HVAC connector, tap the solid green wire (+) and connect to the positive illumination wire from your switch.
On the black HVAC connector, tap the green wire with white trace (-) and connect to the negative illumination wire from your switch.

I was debating 35s too once these wear out. But @Fernando here is constantly having issues lol what are you gonna do for your wheel bearings, CV'S, and gear ratio? I'm short on funds so I'm nerding out on everyone's toy success but am thinking 4.88 and arb front. Already have the compressor just need to install it. Oh and lights. I need lights and time to wheel.

 

I did get to 4wheel a 20 ton cal fire rig though! Not a yota but they're on 42s and had a turbo and 500 gallons of water, left foot braking while right is holding boost made it suprisingly easy

I'll replace wheel bearings when they need replacing. Stock CV axles and I carry 2 spares when I wheel. Thought about RCVs, but hell no am I spending 3k on CV axles. I could build a Sterling 10.5 with that money. 4.10 diffs, but I have an Inchworm 4.7 crawler about to go in the truck so that'll make a huge difference, might regear to 4.88s when I put the front locker in, but we'll see.

I like the look of the filled in top plate. You going to rattle can them? Plan on 1.5 cans of primer and 2 cans of paint each. It's amazing all the nooks and crannies there are on the underside.

 

I followed the instructions for the dimming feature but it didn't work, I realized I didn't care enough about it to pull the wiring and try again.

 

@bagleboy would know. He talked me through it before. I can try to dig up the thread if he doesn't chime in before.

 

I tried before, but didn't source both wires. I'll be giving it another shot tomorrow with @EDDO's idea.
