I use both. Wax (and polish) twice a year, and spray wax most washes in between.

Menzerna Powerlock sealant is what I use when I go all out. I use Chemical Guys spray sealant and quick detailer in between and when I wash.. Back in my VW days where'd Id spend a whole weekend paint correcting/ sealing I'd do a 3 step polish (I always loved Menzerna polishes/ compounds) and 2 coats of sealant. On top of that I would also use a carnuba paste wax. Paste wax for depth and the sealant for longevity. I'd get several months of protecting/ water beading with this and spray wax for in between washes. Now that I own a truck, and a house, and am married with a 20 month old, my time is not as allowing haha. It's refreshing to actually be able to see my truck muddy and dirty and be proud lol

3M Imperial Hans Glaze for black vehicles gets the wet look. Then sealant, then wax over that. Now I just use Klasse all in one. It’s a truck with Baja rash.

Denial is not the river in Egypt. Research, my friend. Every manufacturer of car care products says the polymers last longer. Prove me wrong.

The spray polymers do not fill in the scratches on my paint like a proper paste or thick liquid wax.

With a mother’s carnuba thick liquid wax, or even turtle paste wax, the branch pinstriping is much less visible. Those spray on waxes do nothing for the scratches. After the 1st rain, they’re all back, so I’m not sure about the shine “lasting” with a spray wax.

In the end, a paste wax does a superior job of filling in paint imperfections to return shine, which is what I’m after from a wax.

I guess I could care less how long it technically lasts if it doesn’t work to begin with, which is my experience with the couple spray waxes I tried.

Hybrid V7 sealant . After about 3-4 weeks with just water rinses.

Good thread. I used to use Nushine for years, one had to be careful to avoid black plastic or rubber since it would stain it white. But it was very durable and only needed to apply it every 6 mos. Protected paint well.

Then switched to Meguiars Ultimate wax and their glaze. Lasted only 3-4 mos, the paint on the roof of my 15yr old topper started degrading within a couple years.

Have a 2019 now, with new ARE topper. Brochure states not to wax the topper for 6 months to allow the paint to cure. Makes sense. Truck was built in October 2018 so will clay bar soon and try Menzerna Power Lock Plus Polymer sealant. Suppose to be durable, easy to apply.

Can you see the scratches even though it’s clean and shiney? I find with the carnuba waxes they actually go away, at least the ones that aren’t right through the paint.

Up close you can see them if you go looking for them. I'm with you I The wax though being better at filling and smoothing.

But, for what it is, I can keep a Gloss for a month with this stuff and longer if I double down with the quick dry Detailer after as long as there's no fine grit to the touch

This is really an apples and oranges discussion.

The comparison should be synthetic sealers v. natural waxes v. the new ceramic coatings (a brave new world)

I don't believe anyone is arguing a spray-on wax - which is nothing more than a quick detailing tool - is as effective as one of the three products I mentioned above. If they are, they are misguided.

In the sealers versus wax battle - sealers will last way longer, but not provide the same gloss results as you mention when using a natural wax. What I suggest you try is a glaze - I use McGuires - after sealing and before waxing. There is a definite benefit.

In between major treatments, I'll glaze, and then follow-up with a spray was to get up the residue. The downside of the glaze is that it lasts maybe through two car washes before the benefit is gone.

This is my process for my garage queen Audi. For the Taco, I skip the "between" treatments and simply clay - seal - wax once a year and touch up with spray wax after each wash.

I am going to try out Dr. Beasley's ceramic coating from AutoGeek.net on the Taco this summer. If that stuff is what it is advertised to be - it's the brave new world I mentioned above.

Based on the recommendations of guys here, I also want to try the 303 Protectant on the rubber and other black trim. I've been using Black Wow for years - still have my original little bottle - and have been extremely pleased.

When I wind dry I take a microfiber towel and dry the hood before I drive off for that very reason.
