I've got an offer for a '17 used TRD OR w/ Premium package (but no leather which I don't want anyways) and some other nice add-ons (grill, window tint, roof rack, running boards) and <20k miles VS. a '19 new TRD OR or Sport with no upgrade packages but does have bed cover.

Everything included in both (taxes, fees etc.) the new is about 3.5k more. Can get the same financing rate on both.

Thoughts, suggestions...? Strong preference for either with reason why? 3.5k is good amount of money(!!) I've only bought used on previous vehicles but alas the Tacoma makes a great case for new given the used market.

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. The 19 would get you the safety stuff that started in 18, a different grille and one less storage box in the bed. Also the new one will come with two years of Toyota Care and a full warranty. Is that worth 3.5K? Only you can decide that. Post pictures of what you decide.

    Just a driver mod.
If it were up to me I'd opt for the new and enjoy it while making the mods I want. Plus, nothing beats that new car smell

I would go for the new one. You would miss out on a locking rear diff, but you get to mod it the way you want to.

    It's a secret
Get the 2019 TRD OR. Previous owner of the 2017 Taco may not have been too nice with the engine/tranny/suspension for those 20k-something miles. The +$3.5k for the new is really just a handful of dollhairs for the term of your financing that it's shouldn't be too difficult to allocate funds from your monthly budget anyway; e.g., one day of the month you don't go out for dinner, or not watch a movie in the theater, or not buy a box of ammo...:infantry::p.

    So stock.
I have a 2017 and I’ve been impressed with how much I appreciate the features of the premium and tech package. I’m pretty meh on the sunroof, but the blind spot, cross traffic, and backup sensors, along with dual zone climate, seat heaters, and auto headlights have all been super handy. Obviously I could live without them, but I’m happy I sprung for the upgrade. Also, painted bumpers>Plastic chrome.

I was in a similar situation 4 months ago. I found a Toyota Certified '17 TRD Sport Access Cab with 5,000 miles. It had all the options I was looking for. I checked the Carfax and it was a 1 owner truck with no major issues (except for a battery replacement from lack of use). A '19 with the same options was ~$6k more.

I went with the '17 for not only the the low mileage and $6k difference, but also for the savings in sales tax and the annual 6% Excise tax in MA.

So, check the carfax, price out the new one with the same options as the '17 then decide.

BTW, since coming back to TW, I've spent over $1,500 in Mods. :yay:

Premium and tech is like a 3k option so the 19 would be $6500 more for same as 17. I think the 17’ is the better deal and a year less in payments since your financing even with 20k miles the truck will still ride as if it were new.

    Thanks for all the feedback!
Yea I can't afford Premium package in '19 new...so apples to apples its around ~7.5k less for the '17 Used. Just questioning whether I'll really use it or not which is why I'm comparing to '19 new without out premium package. Having tough time finding '17 Used w/ out premium for much less and needing to purchase soon b/c current car going out.

The used checks out great, clean carfax and no damage. Garage kept.

Thanks again for the thoughtful input.

FWIW, the Premium pkg will help with the resale/trade in value down the road.

The new one will probably have a lower interest rate too.
