Let me know when you decide to hit it and I’ll tag along if you don’t mind.

@Cav_BluTRD might be interested too. He’s in STL.

I’ve never been to one of the parks. I guess I’m more into touring and seeing stuff than trying to break something going over a rock just to say I did. I’d rather deal with obstacles on a trail personally

I'll try to plan ahead and post here if I hit the T.W.A.T again. I might just hit the lower sections again and work my way back along the Wisconsin river. That section of the river is so beautiful. I might have to bring some fishing poles

I would have to be careful too going through the extreme trails lol, pretty much everything under my truck is original except the catback exhaust that finally rotted a big hole through the muffler. I just got that replaced with aftermarket part with a million mile warranty because the OEM had been discontinued some time ago. The independent Toyota mechanic that took the old one off earned every cent of the $150 I paid him :) I have tried to keep everything as clean as I can but after 22yrs of midwest winter driving a lot of stuff is normally weathered. It still drives and handles on the highway much like the day I got it but I have never subjected it to any 4wd other than the snow and a low maintenance road near my uncle's farm in Kansas a couple years after I first got it (almost got stuck that time!) Its been used mainly as an out-of-town work truck and a scenic cruiser, Utah and Yellowstone were the best places its scene and then Canada north of Michigan, Fairbanks is still on my bucket list but the fuel prices for the past decade have hindered that pretty much!
I don't see any older Tacoma's in my model year range (95.5-'97) around here anymore. The older trucks from all manufactures that are near as old that I see are pretty much heavily body panel rotted :( I have not let mine succumb to the midwest weathering, it has been difficult and will be getting pricey to continue keeping the rust at bay for the next 2 decades

maybe that park has some mild 'bunny slopes' with a moderate amount of mud :notsure: might need @Cav_BluTRD to rescue me if he has a winch!?

I’m in. All I need is a few days notice.
I don’t have a winch yet... key word is yet lol
But I’m sure we can get you out no problem @GQ7227 !
Chicago is... hmm. I think 4-5 hours from here. About the same distance to you @Shellshock.

If we found something here in the Midwest where we actually needed a winch I’d be shocked (unless it’s just a giant mud pit). I just run with a set of maxtrax and I’ve only had to use them a couple times. With other trucks, can use a snatch strap if you are stuck too bad.

I’m hoping to run to Alaska in 2020. That’s the idea now anyway, we’ll see what happens between now and then.

Yeah about the same distance here. Truck is mostly stock but I’ve yet to find a need for lift / winch / etc. someone get me stuck and I’ll reconsider lol

So far from what I've explored of the trails in Wisconsin, deep water has been the main thing that got me to turn around. If I had been with a group, I probably would have attempted more.

I have some basic recovery gear, and intend to buy more before I head out to the pipeline again

Any lift I plan on doing will be mostly for the purpose of getting better shocks (coilovers, hopefully), and for aesthetics.

I plan on having a winch eventually, but mostly for peace of mind.

I’m in the same boat. I can get better shocks in factory length no issue but I’ve gotta go a couple inches for rear leafs. I’m over 80k miles now so I should probably do something one of these days

If anyone's interested, I'm heading to the T.W.A.T on Saturday the 20th or that Sunday. I might camp overnight somewhere and make a weekend out of it. Just tentative right now. Going to depend on the weather

trying to locate that event again ... I saw it in the Colorado thread sometime in the past month

this has been on my bucket list for 2 decades, fuel prices after Katrina put a damper onit
I had a job in the Seattle area that I had to drive too (2 days) and maybe 1700 miles? ... I checked out the map to see how much further Fairbanks was (since I was already near Canada and it said another 2100 miles)

I'm not sure about an event in Salt Lake City, but there's a Toyota takeover at the sand dunes in Michigan in August

It was mentioned on the Wisconsin Tacomas thread.

I figure fuel is only gonna get more expensive going forward. $3-5 a gallon over that distance definitely adds up.

My place to Prudhoe Bay is 4000 miles one way. I’ve driven out to Arizona / Colorado / New Mexico quite a few times and it’s 4x as far is pretty crazy to think about

@Cav_BluTRD ... what are your thoughts on your truck making it through this mess :notsure: there's a road there somewhere ...
lots of deep sand in the fields along the riverbanks that went over

are there roads that go that far north to Prudhoe Bay?

looks interesting, very interested if there are many 1st gen trucks there that have battled the midwest winter stuff to compare notes
