Rear lowering only leveling Kit?

Is there a kit out there that just lowers the rear to level the truck? Every kit I find raises the front. I just want to lower the rear as I very rarely will be hauling over 400-500 pounds in the bed so there is no reason for the extra height.

All the lowering kits I find, lower the front too. Am I a niche market here?

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Never thought about that. I wonder if there is a shackle change you can do. Though it will cost more than a little spacer for the front. I’m in a similar boat. I’m gonna do a 63” leaf spring swap and want to keep lift under 2”

 

Just drive around with some weight in the back for a while. Before long the springs will sag, then you can remove the weight and you’ll be set!

 

I’m all for the sport truck look, but a Tacoma?

 

I looked into this too and couldn’t really find a way to lower the rear. Maybe some other can chime in. I ended up going with a spacer in the front.

Remove a leaf? Not sure how much that'll drop a 3rd gen or how much is needed to level it, but generally it's the easiest way to lower the rear aside from putting a bunch of weight back there.

 

Put a set of lowering blocks on it. I put them on a couple Dakotas.

Just a block that mounts between your axle and leaf springs, takes an hour max.

That only works for spring under axle setups. We have a spring over axle setup hence the reason people put blocks to lift the rear.

Sorry I should have put it in my OP that blocks don't work on our Tacoma's for lowering. My last vehicle I messed with the shackles and the blocks to get it at a height I liked.

The drive around with a load in the back defeats the purpose of lowering the rear of the truck for me , trying to squeak out more MPG. While the bed cover helps, I think getting the rear down 1-2" will help some more. Not going for sport truck look at all, just I have no reason for the rake.

I might look into the spring pack. It scares me removing a leaf as you really mess with suspension dynamics then. Looking at the lowering kit SOS Performance offers https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_Kt2Q_-iRXpZW9GMHA1a3NEUFk/view , looks like it takes shackles, perches and u-bolts to lower the rear. But no one offers just the rear at a height to make the truck level. I might just bite the bullet and lower the whole truck. Figuring my Chevy Luv could make it through 12" of snow, a slightly lowered 3rd Gen Tacoma should have no issues either.

 

If you will be rarely carrying weight in the bed then pull the bottom overload spring. That'll drop it about 1/2 inch without affecting ride quality as I think that leaf only engages when under heavy load. If you want more drop and don't want to put weight in the bed to let it sag over time then go on CL or something and find a used set of springs that have sagged already and got swapped out for a new set of Dakars or something

 

I far as I can tell it looks like the lowering kits I'm seeing are 2in drop on the front and 3.5in on the rear.. I would try and call one of these companies and see if they could sell you just the rear hardware. The difference in drop seems to be 1.5in more on the rear then the front so I'd add a 2in lift block on the rear.. at least in my mind that should yield you a 1.5 in drop without having to lower the front axle..

 

Maybe you can buy a lowering kit for 2inch drop and add a block 1inch for only a 1 inch drop.

Cheapest and easiest is to buy 5100 and raise the front, but i know you dont want to do that.

That lowering kit flips the axle to run on top of the springs. yes, It'll lower it 3.5 inches but you can't run blocks to lift it up any higher after that cause the axle is on top of the spring. You could probably use an AAL to lift the back up some but you stiffened up the ride a bit and would want to put some sandbags or something in the back to make it ride better (which OP already said he doesn't want to do)
